Q: Hi, does this couche need to be dampened when proofing dough like ordinary clothes? Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm just an amateur baker.

I’m an amateur also and still learning about the science of bread making. The “internet” says among other things, that you don’t dampen the couche, but with a fine spray bottle of water dampen the top of the loaf before covering it for proofing. It’s worked for me.
