Pennington Smart Seed Dense Shade Grass Mix 3 lb

I was happy to see that this grass seed works and I have grass growing. I had zero results with other grass seed.

Pennington makes/sells the best quality seed. Seed is normally coated with a fungicide/fertilizer. Only drawback is seed doesn't pass through a drop spreader very well, and a rotary/broadcast spreader is need. Germination was excellent, and most of the grass made it through 100 degree days.

I have a heavily shaded back yard and I have been having trouble getting grass to grow. I scraped across the ground with a garden rake and then sowed the seeds with a small spreader and then soaked them in according to instructions. I planted them in late June in Texas. The seed popped up in less than a week.I watered lightly each morning and evening and then after it was established, about 3 weeks, I switched to watering once a week in the evening. It is doing fabulous. I only seeded a small area of my backyard which is about 25' x 25' and coverage was thin to me, so I added 2 more bags and it still does not cover to my satisfaction, but it looks so much better than before I seeded it.

NOT HAPPY AS I USED 4 BAGS OF THIS SEED FOR A 500 SQFT AREA AND IT GREW SPORATICALLY.TOOK ME ALOT OF WORK FOR BASICALLY NOTHING.CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER FOR A REFUND WHICH I DESERVE,WILL POST BEFORE AND AFTER PHOTOS LATER.

I spread the seed over different parts of my yard and followed the watering directions. The seeds did not sprout. I wasted money, time, and water on this product.

Out of all the grass seed I've used, this is the best. 1/3 of my back yard is densely shaded. I've tried many other brands, but this one (and the Smart Patch) are the best I've come across. Not only does the seed come mixed with fertilizer, each seed is coated in fertilizer. I rake the dirt to loosen it up, wet the ground, lay the seed, and then cover it with a bit of topsoil. This gives the seed the protection necessary to stay in place, as well as a better chance of it germinating to take root. Within 5 days I have grass a few inches high coming up, and for a good week or two after I continue to see new grass sprouting, and becoming thicker. I would recommend this over any other. You also get a lot more seed than other brands like Scott's, who gives more fertilizer than seed.
