GLM 21450 Compatible with Mercruiser Alpha One+Gen 2,R,MR Lower Shift Cable Kit+Gasket 865436A03

I found this to be a very high quality kit. I recommend lubing the cable and boot with liquid dish detergent to facilitate installation, otherwise it is impossible to get the brass cable end into the boot small opening. The kit came with a short piece of rod that fit into the housing which is not in any pictures or other kits that I see on line. I don't know what it's for.

First, this kit comes with everything you need to include upper shift lever components. The real reason for the five star review is the cable is a steel wrapped cable just like the mercury part on doesn’t have that ridiculous rod at the control end like the cheaper kits. I actually went through one of those other kits first when I would have been better off and saved more money by buying this off the bat.

An exact match of the original part, great quality. The special tool is just a deep well 9/16 socket with a 3/4 nut welded on. So if you have a welder or a buddy with a welder you can save that excessive for what it is a purchase.

Wish I knew exactly where the heat wrap goes on the cable? Can't see down there, do you push it all the way down as far as it will go?

Ran out and bought the Sierra kit from West Marine a few days ago as the cable was binding enough to trip my interrupter. The cable was a 2 season old Sierra. Upon installing, couldn't get the cable back thru the jacket. Bought this on Amazon and returned that one. This jacket is noticably heavier duty. It comes with a shift bellows boot and a shift shaft top and a gasket set. The Sierra comes with none of that. Buy this instead.

Everything you need to change the cable is included. Everything appears to be high quality parts. Would reccomend to anyone.

Worked amazing on my 5.0L merc with alpha 1 Gen 1 drive, cable was super smooth and even came with new shift cable bellow which mine was cracked, this thing is really good, and smooth! I must say it’s a hard job and not easy to install, (I’m a marine mechanic) but if you have good mechanical experience it can be done within an good timeframe! (This kit comes with just about everything you could need to get the job done highly recommended if you having shift issues or tripping the cutout switch like I was, then definitely worth getting this kit!

Everyone blames the shift interrupt switch. But check your cables! A new lower shift cable and no more problems shifting. Makes docking much easier and less stressful.
