It will work but it might not be fully waterproof. If it's an inside compartment it should be ok. On the outside I probably wouldn't use it.

can this product be switched out for standard cigarette lighter. Can it hook up to the original leads?

So what i found is this is slightly larger diameter to fit in my cigarette lighter slot so modifications had to be made. ( just cut the hole slightly larger with a dremmel.) Also the terminals on the back of this are both vertical. On my truck and other vehicles I know the terminals on the back of the lighter/ 12v plug receptical are offset. (One vertical and one horizontal.) So with that a few modifications had to be made as well. ( you can cut the wires that come with it and crimp on a male plug to the other end so you can turn it to slide in whichever way you need.) Other than that it wasn't hard to do these things but also not a simple pull and replace. At least not in my chevy. But now it works well and looks good. Hope this helps

I hooked up to 12v switched power and it is always on by default when the car starts which is not what i wanted/expected... same for everyone else?

If it’s on a switched hot wire from ignition it only comes on when car is running. If it’s on a constant hot wire from battery it always stays on.

Great charging port, accurate voltmeter

Great addition to moped. Nice having the voltmeter too just to monitor how the stator and voltage rectifier is working. Had the perfect size hole saw a bit laying around drilled the hole and just added it to my headlight switched power and ground, took me all of 10 minutes. Nice knowing it has an inline fuse as well. Great product for cheap money. Happy customer.

It works as advertised, but the blue numbers are impossible to see in direct sunlight, especially if the waterproof lid is in place. Otherwise, it works as advertised. No, I would not buy this again due to the dim numeric display.

Works good. I removed the factory 12 V Port in my car and wired this one up. I like how it has the on off button so I can choose when I need to turn it on. Charges up nicely and has a pretty accurate voltage reading would recommend.
