This Oxo Good Grips Garlic Peeler works well
I am a gadget junkie and I find this Oxo Good Grips Garlic Peeler to be one of the few gadgets I have tried lately that delivers success from what started as a cool idea. I use LOTS of garlic and though I do like dried garlic powder in some applications, there is no substitute for fresh. Sometimes, it was just too much for my lazy soul to deal with the sticky mess of cleaning and dicing garlic cloves and on those days I had to settle for dried. BUT, there are lots of new gadgets to squander my money on and I hit on this one.The other night was the innagural run of the peeler and I was making pasta with garlic sauteed in olive oil. You break the cloves from the bulb, insert 4-5 into the silicone manicotti shaped tool and roll on the counter top with your palms for several seconds. Dump the contents into a bowl to seperate the whole peeled cloves and avoid having the paper fly all over the kitchen. In less than 5 minutes, I had 1 WHOLE BULB of garlic cleaned and ready to run through the new garlic hand press that I ordered in conjunction with the peeler. The new press is the heavy duty variety that is capable of crushing the cloves unpeeled but with this handy device, peeling them first actually saved time and the mess of cleaning the residual paper peels from the press and that was probably 1/4 the time it would have taken to process the garlic using the old smash with a knife blade then chop method. Clean up was relatively easy by using my fingers and a small amount of dish soap to rub the peels of the inside in a jiffy. I am very happy with how this product functions.I also recommend this garlic press Trudeau Garlic Press as an excellent mix of price/function.************Update 6/4/10*********************************Last trip to the grocery I found some beautiful garlic with huge cloves (not quite elephant garlic size) and bought 6 bulbs. When I tried to peel these very large flattened cloves (1 clove was a snug fit in the tool), the peeler did not work as well as when peeling "normal" sized cloves. I experimented with it a bit using 1 and 2 cloves and found that it worked much better after cutting the cloves in half lengthwise BEFORE peeling. This also allows the above mentioned press to work better. No kidding, a single clove was a forced fit into the press before cutting and overflowed the press cavity even AFTER cutting the cloves. Im my opinion, this is not a serious negative since this is the first time I have found garlic this size available. I mention it for info purposes only.

It Really Works!
Very simple to use and clean. Rolled a couple of cloves in the tube and the skins came off easily.

Such a wonderful item!
I cook a lot and this garlic skin removal is the best! It does the best job ever & it’s quick to remove the garlic skin. I have an older one different brand and it works, but not like this one. It’s so easy and thorough!

OH OH It's MAGIC
How in the world does this thing work? You put garlic in the middle of bendy plastic tube and roll it around. Voila, presto changeo - No more garlic skin! As a known lover of McCormick Garlic Powder, 5.37-Ounce Units (Pack of 6 ), fresh garlic is even better (for some things, not for pizza application). Garlic 4 days! It really does work quite well and peeling garlic is a bigger pain than sleeping on a pull-out couch. Solved. My one minor complaint would be, its really just a plastic tube, I mean it doesn't really look like its from the Jetsons.Mrs. Philyodaddy didn't really seem to love this as much as I did. Not sure why, probably because she is an older woman who is unable to keep up with these fast-moving times. Sorry, Mrs. Philyodaddy, just dropping the truth.Pro-Tip- philyodaddy is a very strong man, so when trying at first, I applied a little too much pressure when rolling and it didn't work as well. Lay off the Muscle Milk (tm).Last note- One of the alleged benefits is "Hands stay free of smells of garlic" - don't bring that weak sauce OXO. Garlic is delicious and your hands should smell if you are cooking. Otherwise, you aren't doing it right. It is known.

Works great!
If you have a large quantity to peel and are tired of sticky fingers and trying to peel off paper, this gadget is fantastic. I peeled 30 cloves of garlic in no time.

Actually works well, and saves tons of time!
The media could not be loaded. This garlic peeler works very well. Stick the garlic in, rub back and forth for 2-5s, takeout peeled garlic, and dump out the paper! Can peel 100x faster than my old ways (smashing with the side of a knife first, or shaking in a container). Now I can use a lot more garlic, in much less time!I usually buy the peeled garlic from costco when they have it because of how much easier it is to use, but it's molds relatively fast, and even fresh, has many already rotten in it.Now I can get fresh garlic, use it almost as fast as already peeled garlic, and it lasts a lot longer! So this thing will save you time and money lost to bad garlic- definitely a must for any kitchen that uses garlic on a regular basis.Only negative:-After several garlic peeled (3-6?),k the paper starts sticking on the inside, so you have to knock it against the counter to get it out. Over time it will build up/ keep sticking, so you'll have to wash the inside out (which you have to do with your fingers), and let it dry (but they give you a case with air holes for that). Also, you can't use this very well on a moist countertop, or if the garlic is wet, just to be aware of.

Oxo garlic peeler is very effective and efficient in removing garlic skins
Peeling garlic, when you have a lot of cloves to peel, can be time consuming and challenging. The Oxo garlic peeler works very well in removing the skins from cloves with very little effort. The cloves emerge from the peeler clean of the skins and the unit corrals most of the skins inside. Cleaning is easy with dish soap and water. The peeler comes with a storage case which is an added bonus.

Meh. Gimicky.
I purchased this for a chef who was very excited to try it. They do use it occasionally but it’s sort of a tedious process that transparently, isn’t saving you much effort from peeling another way. Because the cloves are oddly shaped they don’t roll that well in the tube. Once they do peel, there’s not much you can do to clean it except run water through (IDK if it’s dishwasher safe). And the peel can get somewhat stuck to the clove as you pull everything out. This may be a product that’s up to personal preference but I wasn’t impressed. If you hate touching garlic maybe it’s for you.
