The Charlotte Mason Homeschool Journal: & Delight Directed Learning Handbook Paperback – June 3, 2015

I had high hopes for this, but honestly, I wasn't super impressed. The price is high for what you get (I've paid less than that for hardbound textbooks almost the same length). This is basically a bunch of open ended worksheets to fill in, most of which are the same repeated. It has you start with 9 books, but I think I looked through well and it never suggests you add more or evaluate what you have to see if you should move on to other things. I also thought they would encourage more learning from the books each day rather than just "set a timer and read for 15 minutes each from 4 of them."I looked for more info about the different books before buying but couldn't find much. The one thing I did see basically said they are pretty much the same, just buy by the cover. So I don't know if the "Charlotte Mason" mention on the cover really makes a difference or not. I wish that was specified more in the description. Plus, if you're going to say "Charlotte Mason" or "Eclectic" or "Delight Directed," it seems there should be SOMETHING in there that is specific to that.For $35, I expected a lot more variety. Just graphing something every day for math? Hmm. Write 4 or 6 or 3 or 5 letter words? (If this is a daily thing, why not have a different way to reinforce the previous set, even once in between?) I won't be buying another unless it is less than $20. An option to download a set of 12 pages (maybe extend that for the art pages, or just say for mom to find a work of art to study) to print as many as you'd like for maybe $5-10 would be an even better option for me personally.Like I said, I had high hopes and I think it could be so much more! A great beginning idea?

The media could not be loaded.  I love this, I purchased one for each of my children and one for me (4 total) which I am using as a "Teachers Guide" I also purchased Thinking Tree Math and Science for each of my children. I suggest to the author that the alphabet pages be in alphabetical order instead of "willy-nilly" I am dyslexic and we are all very visual. I have used Charlotte Mason Style Homeschooling for 7 years. *I said Geology, I meant Geometry...my daughter is into Geology in 4H so I had Geology on the brain. ;) Hope my review helps to show how this can be incorporated into your special style and customized for your special kids! I love this .. I ((think)) I will buy again I think... we will see how 2016-2017 goes!! Shipping took a long time..as I'm used to 2 day delivery.

Happy with the journal itself but unfortunately it came with something spilled or leaked on it, like an oil or perfume. It’s very strong smelling and some of the pages are now ruined.

I love Charlotte Mason and glad to have an inspired learning book in Thinking Tree! Thinking Tree Books are the best. Inspires the best learning skills. We love Thinking Tree and highly recommend them. They are very addictive and fun! My daughter is so excited Everytime she gets a new one! They cover a lot of subjects and help you to research the subjects. You choose the best one for what your child is interested in and go from there. If you haven't tried Thinking Tree you should!

Great layout for Charlotte Mason beginners that need to transition. Still elements of fun-schooling but definitely an enjoyable resource and we love that it implements nature study, picture study, and copy work! Key elements in a Charlotte Mason atmosphere. We also love that Sarah has taken the time to look out for the struggles some of our children have with dyslexia and adhd. Well done!

Great book! My children love this directed learning style that leads them through their day with their choice of books. I especially love that the art study is in the book so I do not have to find something on my own. So easy to implement theCharlotte Mason style.

The open ended design is creative and beautiful, and the addition of picture study in this core journal combined with the library based delight- directed learning is an amazing combination giving this a very Charlotte Mason approach to education.

This is truly a beautiful one of a kind book. It has art study in it which is different than the other journals. The book is just beautiful and my daughter is really enjoying it.

Five stars is less. I would give it more if I could.It helps the parent a lot. I'm a beginner and I would not have so many ideas.It has many kinds of activities, all for a good, kind valuable education of a child.

My 9yo son loves this for his homeschool core.
