A brute of a pump.
I've had a smaller version of this pump by the same manufacturer for several years and it is amazing, so I ordered this for a larger project. At zero head pressure it delivers, through a 5/8" hose 50' long, without any fittings or spigot, 5.4 gallons in 60 seconds. Or about a gallon every 11 seconds, which is pretty quick, and works well for watering a garden. It provides just enough pressure to get bubblers to work, but isn't anything like municipal water pressure. Due to the low power consumption, you don't need a heavy extension cord to run it. We had a cold snap and it was frozen in ice (in my rainwater collection tank) for two days before it thawed out enough to test it. No problems. Another super product from Wayne. UPDATE: I accidentally left this pump on while I was on vacation for eight days. It was still going strong when I got back. I'm glad it's such a high quality pump and didn't burn up or catch on fire. Little extra insurance for dumb moves like that.

Strongly recommended over standard submersible pump if you have dirty water.
Played with this pump yesterday to empty my waterfall pond which is full of leaves and decayed leaves which makes mud. Previously, I used a standard submersible pump with the grid bottom to take in the water. However, the bottom grid would get quickly clogged with mud and leaves. This vortex pump is much better although still can get clogged with leaves. The impeller creates a strong vortex in a chamber beneath it which acts like a tornado sucking in water through the intake port and throwing it out the output port. The impeller never gets clogged. If the output port gets clogged for whatever reason, there is an over pressure release valve. If the intake port gets clogged, the chamber becomes dry and the impeller just spins to no real harm it seems (at least for a short period of time. The motor does have over temperature protection). The impeller is solid thermoplastic and should never wear out since it does not need rubber fins that rub against a pump chamber’s wall like normal pumps. This system works beautifully on dirty water and can pump a lot of water (although at low pressure) but the small 1" intake port can be blocked with leaves. The port needs to be small compared the chamber volume to maintain the vortex. The other problems are that the pump is very quiet so you can’t really tell if the intake port becomes clogged unless you look at the output hose (no water). The other problem is that the vortex is actually quite strong and it will suck itself to the bottom if the pump sits on a soft surface like a rubber mat (in spite of the feet). You can remove the bottom of the vortex chamber if the output port or the chamber becomes clogged although this is much less likely than the intake port becoming clogged. While the starting water level must be above the top of the output port for maximum flow, it will pump down to 3/8” and pass up to ½” material. I’m thinking some kind of stand might be used to keep away leaves and prevent the thing front sucking itself to the bottom although the pump down depth would increase. So far great improvement over standard submersible pump or centrifugal pump for that matter. This pump costs about 50% more than a standard submersible pump but works much better and is a name brand (Wayne). Other vortex pumps are much more expensive and largely meant for commercial use. The pump comes in three sizes although the price difference is not great so I bought the largest. Strongly recommended over standard submersible pump if you have dirty water. None better for the money.

Tankless water heater descaling
This pump works very well for tankless water heater descaling maintenance. With approximately 2 gallons of combined descaling solution and water in a 5 gallon bucket I placed pump inside bucket. Hooked washing machine hoses up. Very nice feature with the inline power switch on the cord. Pump runs Very Quiet .Do this every year. Ran for an hour straight with no problems. Highly recommend.

WORKS GOOD BUT INSTRUCTIONS WRITTEN BY A MAN
AFTER 14 YEARS AND NO WATER IN MY BASEMENT THIS MONTH I WAS HIT.. SO MY FIREMEN IN BEAVER FALLS PA WERE GREAT.. THEY CAME 4 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS AND BROUGHT THEIR OWN STATION SUMP PUMP.. LAST WEEK THE FIREMEN LEFT THEIR SUMP PUMP WITH ME AS THE RAIN WOULD NOT STOP AND I HAD A BRAND NEW FURNACE AND HOT WATER TANK GETTING WET AND THE HOT WATER TANK SITTING LOWER ON THE FLOOR KEPT PUTTING OUT THE GAS PILOT LIGHT BECAUSE OF THE 10 INCH WATER FLOOD... BUT THE FIREMEN'S SUMP PUMP ONLY WENT DOWN TO CLEAR OUT ANYTHING ABOVE 3 INCHES OF WATER, THEN IT WOULD STOP AND YOU HAD TO TURN IT OFF ON IT'S SWITCH.. SO I BOUGHT THIS PUMP BECAUSE IT STATED IT WENT DOWN TO 1/4 INCH OF WATER.. WELL IT WORKS GREAT, BUT I WILL SAY IT ONLY GOES DOWN TO 1/2 INCH OF WATER, BUT THAT MEANT I COULD SLEEP ANOTHER HOUR BEFORE I HAD TO RUN DOWN THE BASEMENT STEPS TO TURN IT ON AGAIN.. NOW HERE WAS THE PROBLEM, THE DIRECTIONS SUCKED, THEY MUST HAVE BEEN WRITTEN BY A MAN AS THERE WERE NO PICTURES TO HELP ME FIGURE OUT WHAT IT DOES, NOR HOW IT WORKED, AND EVERYTHING WAS SCREAMING DON'T STAND ON THE WET BASEMENT FLOOR IN THE DIRECTIONS??? PLUS THIS PUMP HAS NO ON AND OFF BUTTON...AND THE BASEMENT FLOOR WAS WET ALL THE TIME SO HOW COULD YOU NOT STAND ON A WET FLOOR??.. THEN IT STATES DON'T USE AN EXTENTION CORD.. WELL HOW COULD I GET IT OFF AND ON BY PLUGING IT IN AND OUT OF THE ELECTRIC SOCKET AND NOT STAND IN THE WATER ON THE WET BASEMENT FLOOR?? IT SHOULD HAVE HAD A MUCH LONGER EXTENTION CORD WITH IT LIKE 20 FEET..BUT ANYWAY I GOT A LONGER EXTENTION CORD WITH A 3 WAY PLUG ON IT, I PUT THE SUMP PUMP ON THE BASEMENT FLOOR AND TIED IT'S CORD AROUND THE MY BANNISTER TO MY EXTENTION CORD SO THEY DID NOT CONNECT AND LAY IN THE WATER AND DRAGGED THE EXTENTION CORD UPSTAIRS TO MY KITCHEN.. SO NOW I JUST HAVE TO OPEN THE BASEMENT DOOR, LOOK DOWN TO SEE IF THE BASEMENT HAD WATER IN IT AND PLUG THE SUMP PUMP IN MY KITCHEN OUTLET.. THE PUMP WORKED GREAT AT THAT POINT BEATING THE FIREMEN'S SUMP PUMP TOO BY TAKING THE WATER DOWN TO A MUCH LOWER POINT ON THE FLOOR MEANING LESS ON AND OFF TIME RUNNING IT.. I WAS WORRIED WHEN I FIRST PLUGGED IN THIS SUMP PUMP AS A GREY LITTLE PLASTIC THING ON THE SIDE OF IT LET WATER FLOW OUT LIKE A WATER FOUNTAIN AND THE WATER FELL BACK INTO MY BASEMENT THINKING WHAT THE H__ IS THIS ALL ABOUT, BUT THEN THE NEXT THING I KNEW WAS THE WATER WENT UP THE HOSE I BOUGHT FOR THIS PUMP THAT I PUT THROUGH MY BASEMENT VENTED WINDOW, AND OUT INTO THE YARD ALL THE WATER WENT.. SO THE BASEMENT GOT CLEARED OUT FASTER THAN THE FIREMEN'S PUMP COULD DO BUT I WISH I HAD BOUGHT THE LONGER 1 1/4 INCH HOSE.. I JUST BOUGHT 24 FEET AND NOW THE MIDDLE OF MY YARD LOOKS LIKE YOU CAN ICE SKATE ON IT.. A LONGER HOSE COULD HAVE TAKEN THE WATER OUT TO THE STREET. SO FAR I AM HAPPY WITH THIS PUMP BUT THE DIRECTIONS WERE NOT CLEAR BY NO MEANS..

Excellent Pump
Really fast for a standard garden hose. If you are using this to drain a hot tub - you can expect this to be twice as fast as a 1/4 Rigid like I was using. It is also self priming which has saved me a lot of headache.

Great for emergencies
Does everything it is supposed to, There is no switch for the power so you must unplug from your power source when done or you may overheat the motor.

Fast shipping.
When i opened the box it came in the pump almost looked used. Thats the only issue i had. All the pieces were there and the pump works great and its real quiet. Used it 3 times this weekend to pump pool level down cause we got alot of rain the last few days. Used it for emtying sump pump pit to replace a check valve also. Very happy with pump so far.Edit: August 2023. Pumps still workin great. Use it every year to pump 25 foot above ground pool down half way for winter. Also use as emergency sump if needed and pluged into float switch.

Affordable, easy to setup, fits almost anywhere, quiet, doesn’t bog down and gets the job done fast!
I dislike absolutely nothing about this little pump! It has saved my bacon many times since I purchased it. Namely by keeping my garage and basement from being flooded during rain storms that prob could have floated Noah’s ark. I have a concrete trench drain covered by grates in front of my garage door but often it becomes clogged by leaves, etc. and the water rises very quickly due to a steep grade from the street to my garage door. I pop the grate off, put the little pump in(connected to a 20ft hose) and plug it in. That’s it, problem solved. After about a min this little pump is pushing water up over a stack stone wall and into my side yard where it can do no harm. It is quiet, pumps water at a crazy fast rate so I have to keep an eye on it once the rain lets up to ensure it doesn’t run dry. I believe the auto-shutoff comes on more $$$ models but for the money, this little pump has earned its keep and thensome. Easy to setup, fits almost anywhere, doesn’t bog down and gets the job done fast!

Working Water Level Not As Advertised
I bought this for my basement, have had water in it in the past I was being proactive. Sure enough I got water again, this was going to make my life easier than being down there with a shop vac. I could put is in 1/8" of water and let it do the work. Actually it turns out I have to wait until I have 2 5/8" of water to use it as that is the operational water level it works at (that info is nowhere in the details but it clearly says it on the pump and in the manual). But it will bring the water DOWN to 1/8". Unfortunately I would rather attack my problem before I have over 2.5" of water in my basement. Can't say how well it works in over 2.5" of water but if you need it for water less than that this is not the pump for you.
