Too Many Don’t Know What ‘Banality of Evil’ Means
Arendt has, beyond many experiences in reading, instructed me in key ways to understand my world - and the history of us all. Reading her on ‘banality of evil’ will comfort and inform any young or other reader striving for clarity.

great starting place to read one of the most brilliant thinkers of the 20th century!
i like most of the penguin classics. this book, which includes a sample of her letters, books, articles, and speeches, is very thoughtful. the introduction was, as the previous reviewer suggested, scholarly, respectful yet, at times, engaging. she is, indeed, a political - historian - philosopher, regardless of her own denials. astute observations at times, among the very finest i've ever read. but, then, there are other times in which she just seems to gloss over the premise, analyze the process, and reach fallacious conclusions because, perhaps, the premise never even occurred to her? i don't know. it's not consistent with the rest of her brilliant work. she seemed to start out in germany very strong willed but her tenacity seemed to peter out over the decades. maybe we're all like that, huh? i've never found any of her writings for which i would proffer anyting other than an A+. this work comes highly recommended for anyone with an interest in philosophy, political theory, history, jewish studies.

BRILLIANT!
Please read all the other reviews because I am not going to get into details as they have. Talk about a book for it's time or a time for this book. Arendt is brilliant. I wish I could have been privileged to have spent 14 minutes and 37 seconds with her. It would have been a most enlightening experience. Between the way she writes and the way she thinks, this is must reading for anyone who is having a difficult time trying understand what is going on NOW! It would be fascinating to be able to bring her back. Even more fascinating about her was the fact that here was a Jewess, writing about the Nazis and Totalitarianism, who had a clandestine affair with Heidegger! This is one complex lady with a mind and writing ability that is well worth your investment in time reading. In a word... WOW!

Finally It Arrived!
The book finally arrived and in better condition than I expected. However, it took 2 1/2 weeks to get it, even though I only live about 2 hours from the store where it was shipped.

Arendt is still important
Hannah Arendt is a political philosopher whose work is still highly relevant and inspirational. This selection of her writings, essays and excerpts from her books aims to give the scope of her ideas to the full. That includes her work on the human mind, the role of imagination, and the human condition. But there is also a full coverage of her political writings that relate to the history of the Jewish people in the 20th century. These analyses rank among the very best that have been written on the subject in history. The reader can follow the emergence of such widely-known concepts like "the banality of evil", concepts that Arendt examines with clarity and intelligence.

Hannah Arendt is as relevant now as when she was ...
Hannah Arendt is as relevant now as when she was living. She lived through dark times. She has cautionary words for us as we potentially enter a new "dark age" of Trumpism.

Highlights of Hannah Arendt
I was using this book for a course I was taking that focused on Hannah Arendt's work. Many of her books are both very large and a bit opaque. This book is manageable in size and contains important sections from Origins and On Revolution. Type is quite small so if you have a reading issue you might want to consider the Kindle edition.

An Essential Read
One of those books that develops one understanding of the world. Thoughtfully and fairly written, it reveals much that was new to me despite much previous reading in this subject area. Arendt's journalistic skill is much in evidence with a compact readable informal prose style making the most opaque aspects accessible. Many questions are raised by this book, many deeper studies are suggested; that is inherent in the subject matter and that a further tribute to the author that unknown areas were neither glossed over nor closed down, but rather the reader completes the book and is left with a desire for more studyGiven the date, the book also seems very modern, the scholarship having stood up well to the passing years. A few sentences might be revised in light of what is now known, but these do not detract from the work to any significant degree. An essential work for all lovers of peace, all who seek to find love for their fellow men but realise the need to understand the realities of the world in which we live
