Jesus and the Old Testament Roots of the Priesthood

I cannot say enough about how much I have enjoyed this book. I first saw John Bergsma on Pints with Aquinas with Matt Fradd discussing the priesthood and how most Catholics probably wouldn't know how to defend the need for priests in our Church and he was correct. After reading this easy to understand and well laid out presentation of a book, I feel so much more enlightened as to why we have priests. Mr. Bergsma easily lays out the priesthood from Adam to the modern day, from the Old Testament right on through to the New Testament. There are so many passages in Scripture that point to the basis of his argument that I never really understood or looked closely at before nor fully understood their implications.There are so many other things to be pointed out in support of this book, but I will reduce my thoughts down to one statement: "Get yourself a copy of this book and use it as a reference." Trust me, you won't be sorry you did. If you are looking for a good apologetic book or just affirmation in the belief in the Catholic priesthood, this book is definitely for you!

Enlightening book on priesthood from a Scriptural perspective. I especially enjoyed some of what was for me new information on the priesthood from Old Testament perspective and how that enhanced New Testament understanding. This author always enlightens deep understanding on all his topics while keeping it easy to read.

Like all books by John Bergsma, this presents a profound knowledge and understanding of the links between the Old and New Testaments in a beautifully written and clear style. A quick read and well worth it.

Livre exceptionelle qui retrace la prêtrise dans la Bible et remet tout en perspective. Tout commence avec Adam, qui est appelé déjà à être prêtre pour la création et l'aventure se poursuit avec les patriarches, Moïse, le peuple d'Israël, les lévites, les rois, etc. jusqu'à Jésus et aux apôtres et finalement aux prêtres d'aujourd'hui, à savoir tout les chrétiens pour ce qui est du sacerdoce royal et les hommes consacrés au sacerdoce ministériel.C'est l'occasion de remettre toute la vie chrétienne en perspective et de comprendre en quoi nous sommes tous appelés à être prêtre, dans nos lieux de vie et dans toute notre vie, et de comprendre plus en profondeur le sacerdoce ministériel et ce qu'est l'Église elle-même. Un livre bouleversant, qui va du plus quotidien au cosmique en passant par la croix du Christ, dans une analyse du texte belle et précise ainsi que des conseils tout à fait pratiques, qui plus est en un nombre de pages très raisonnable : je recommande très chaudement ce nouveau trésor de J Bergsma.
