Cleaner healthier air, while saving money, don’t be affraid to try the Amazon warehouse deal!!
I love a lot about this air filter. I really like the smart features. I originally thought they would be gimmicky, but after living with it for a few weeks I have experienced the value. I love that it detects the airborne contaminants, and increases air circulation to clean the air. I’ve noticed that it increases air flow during high traffic and vacuuming, among other things. I like that I can check the app for air quality, and I can see past air quality as well. I like that the filter knows when it’s bedtime and decreases airflow, in order to keep noise pollution down, for quiet tearfulness. Now on to effectiveness. We have a nearly 3000 square foot new construction home. It’s about three years old. Most of our air contaminants likely come from area construction, as well as a year round growing season, with year round pollen and similar contaminants. My oldest child has had a persistent hack for the last couple of years. I would not really call it a cough, so much as a hack. Every few minutes he would do a throat and lunch clearing cough. It never seemed short of breath, just seemed to be clearing an irritant. We took him to doctors, who suggested everything from allergies to asthma. We sort of ruled out asthma because he is athletic, and has no issues out working other children, and displays no unacceptable shortness of breath, other than what you expect, and recovery times are quicker than normal. As a previous asthma sufferers myself, that does not resemble asthma to me. We opted to try daily allergy medications, and they seemed to help some, but did not eliminate that dreaded hack. Now I said all of that to say this. Since we added this filter, we hardly ever hear him clear his lungs. I’m actually surprised, because I assumed it would take much longer. I figured he had been doing it long enough that it was a habit by now. But after a few days of filtering, his symptoms diminished, and after a week or so, he almost never does it. Now our home is nearly double the size of the the filters rated coverage area. But the design of our home, I think, allows one unit to work. Our central air unit has only one air return, and it is at the blower unit. This is located centrally, upstairs, in a closet with a vented door. The area around that closet is sort of an open landing area, that opens to a large family room. I think what is happening is that the filter can clean large volumes of air, that then get circulated through the house. The dirty air is then pushed back up to that open area, and filtered by the unit. The unit can tell when air is clean or dirty, and increases, or decreases circulation, accordingly. Anecdotally this seems to be a successful test, eliminating our primary concern. The side benefit is the remainder of our family is now breathing cleaner, healthier air. It just took one sensitive member to illustrate the need. I wish I had known this would solve the problem, and I wish I had done it sooner. I expected to need to units to have a successful result, and I’m so pleased that one unit does the job. Not every home may have the same results. Some may actually need two units to do the job. Also, I opted to shop the amazon warehouse deals and save a bunch of money. I bought a used acceptable condition unit. It arrived in a generic box, but everything was still protected by the factory foam, and cling wrap. Everything appeared new, and worked perfectly. If you want to save s big percentage, I highly suggest checking out the warehouse deals. If your displeased with the condition, Amazon has a very generous return exchange policy. My filters in my unit looked brand new and unused. But if I were concerned, new filters are about $100, so you could still have significant savings, even if you opted to put brand new filters in it right away. At first I was put off by what seemed like a high filter cost. Then I recognized what I was spending on allergy medication each month, for one child. The filters provide clean, allergy free air for the whole family, at a fraction of the cost of allergy medications for one child. By reducing our allergy medication costs, we can replace filters as needed, an no added cost. I would have thought building a new home would prevent these issues, but the other new construction in the area, seems to exacerbate the issue. I also weighed the option of an Aprilair, or air bear system on our central air unit, but I was concerned about the designed air flow for our system, and any disruption could shorten the central air life, increase energy needs, and decrease overall home comfort. Those air filters work great for a system designed and tuned for their use. But for a system designed for a more or less open fiber filter, it could cause problems. So I decided a stand alone filter would be the better option. Also those air handler systems that go on your ariconditioner unit, are not usually helps rated. The AIRMEGA 400s is. And it is constantly monitoring, and cleaning the air. It also uses no harmful ozone. I’m an ozone fan, and I own an ozone generator. But I like to use it in specific situations, under controlled conditions, when all occupants can be out of the house. I don’t want ozone to be a part of my primary home air filtration system. Others may have different priorities, and I encourage you to research the benifits and precautions, and choose according to your needs and priorities.

Great Air Purifier - 3 Year Review
I’ve been using the Airmega 400s for over three years, and it has been outstanding. We’ve noticed a significant reduction in both household dust and allergy symptoms. The unit is extremely sensitive to airborne particles and almost instantly detects and alerts me when air quality changes, even on other floors. While the filters do need to be replaced eventually, they can be thoroughly cleaned and reused several times before replacement is truly necessary. The Airmega 400s is very quiet in most modes, and even at full power it’s not disruptive at all. I consistently recommend this air purifier to friends and family.

Great Industrial Grade Filter —But Is The App Spyware?
The filter itself has provided phenomenal filtration for approx. 600 sq ft space. The circular LED particle display is very sensitive to report dust or humidity passing inside the sensor with different colors. The filters themselves are obviously made with the highest quality, and are multi-stage and readily suck up smoke, most smells and dust. The circular indicator goes yellow or red when it detects particles and gradually absorbs the particulates until the indicators returns to the reassuring "blue-green" color. I bought this to combat smells migrating from a neighbor in the unit below. It does a valiant job. The neighbor is a formidable foe, however. So I don't fault the unit. The filters are quite expensive. The filter has last months so far, and the LED filter life indicator suggests it is half expended. I have cleaned the fine metal screens, running them under water to rinse off dust rather than letting it go airborne again. The clean-the-metal-screen indicator activates pretty often—about once a week—which is more than I would expect. It is not a big chore, but I didn't know I would have a job to do to maintain the filter, albeit minor. Air quality has been good, so worth it. The activated charcoal elements do work, however, with the challenging smells from below (cooking? smoking? who knows?) I do use Febreeze spray from time to time to freshen things up and quickly bump things up to a fresher level inside. I thought the unit would be too big for the space, but with the neighbor issue, it has proved to be right-sized to the task. I usually run it on level 3 while at home, which has an acceptable sound level and also creates a smooth white noise to filter out some of the neighbor's odd noises as well. But when I leave, I boost it to 4 to catch any violations while I'm gone, so the air is fresh when I come back. The highest setting is quite loud, but if you want clean air "now" it is nice having the extra horsepower when needed. When absent, I'll use 4 to guarantee things are clean. Over the winter, wood smoke from outside would settle at ground level with atmospheric inversions pretty often. It was really nice to have "clean room" of air and a reprieve from the smokey outside air. Annual forest fires that come every summer summer will give this filter a workout, too, but I'd expect it to do well. I would recommend the filter. However, I took one star off for the app. I was very uncomfortable with the language I found on end user license agreement (EULA) which seems to grant broad-brush license to this Chinese company to use your information any way it wants, or give it to anyone it wants. With such a customer-unfriendly EULA, it caused me to wonder what unadvertised "features" this unit might have. Why does it need so much access? But more importantly, I'm not sure what data you must "OK" when installing and using the app on your phone. Is this spyware? Does it slurp up your contacts and other personal info and send it back to the mothership? The EULA created just enough doubt that even though I have the WIFI model, I decided NOT to use the smart app features from my phone and not to install the app, which has been fine. However, I paid extra to have this feature and was a bit disappointed by the level of intrusion the app wanted and Coway's invasion of privacy. I leave the filter running 24/7 anyway, so the app really isn't all that necessary. The circular LED status display gives sufficient feedback to make occasional adjustments when needed, so changing settings isn't often enough to need a phone app anyway. Overall, I would recommend the unit, but not the WIFI version. The prices rose immediately after I ordered the WIFI model, such that the higher price for the non-WIFI unit made it the same price as what I paid for the WIFI version—so I just kept it. (The price has gone up 50% since I purchased, so I'd suggest watching for sales. I would not have purchased this at the current price.) I tried an assortment of different filters prior to buying this one to combat the inside air problems with the neighbor. This is the only one that had enough oomph to truly make a difference. This unit would be great for apartments or condos with shared walls or floors where you may not have full control over neighbor activities. A miscellaneous comment. The bright circular LED status light can be turned off at night. It also serves as a fairly bright night light if left on in living spaces at night. I suspect the app can control this, too, but I've opted to do it manually. I will have to consider whether I'll get the genuine Coway filters (yes, there are two large filter panels inside with a massive filter area) which are quite expensive, or one of the seemingly identical no-name filters at half the price. The reviews suggest the knock-offs may work as well. I'd be willing to try them.

I did a lot of research on air purifiers before settling on this one (400S). After purchasing it I have to say I'm extremely impressed. Build quality is fantastic, it moves a lot of air through it, on the low settings it's super quiet (and still move good air). I was able to connect it to my AmpliFi mesh network no problem, I didn't have any of the connection issues others have experienced. The scheduling works very well. There's a very small bug in the scheduling if you are trying to do things specific (too long to go into it in the review). But I have been in contact with Coway and they are working on the fix right now. Their customer support is amazing, fast replies and very friendly. The sensor works great. The 1st one we got is in the Master bedroom, so once we start making the bed in the morning it will sense the "dust" coming off the bed and will kick into medium speed. Even just moving around it will sometime kick it into medium because you are kicking up dust from the carpet (which can hold a lot of dust). So it knows when the air isn't 100% perfect. We liked it so much that we purchased a 2nd 400S for our Living Room/Kitchen (open concept house), we have 2 indoor cats (that don't go into the bedrooms). And a 3rd (300S) for the basement to go beside the cat litter box. We went with a 300S for the basement because of the light sensor on the 400S (300S has no light sensor), it's dark in the basement and the 400S would stay in Sleep mode all the time, which is not what we want, we want SMART mode all the time in the basement. I believe Coway is also working on the ability to disable the light sensor on the 400S through the app, but it's not available yet so we went for the 300S. I don't use the light sensors on the 400S either, I have the schedule turn them completely off during the night because in sleep mode they move a tiny amount of air (to be extremely quiet), not enough to really do a lot in our house, so there's no reason to keep them on. If you have really bad air it's probably good to have them keep working even at a reduced capacity, but our air is pretty good, I just wanted them to help with some of the dust and also a way to monitor my indoor air (through their app). Very happy with them so far.

Great product , I've been using the air mega 400S for about a month now . It moves a lot of air quickly. and my allergies are much better . The auto setting works perfect also the phone app is cool and works good although the outside allergy update for my area on the app does not work , it say's not supported in my area , not a deal breaker for me , I live on Vancouver island. Very powerful unit . I was more interested in power and the ability to clean a lot of air as I live in a 1600 square foot house but am pleasantly surprised in the refinement and build quality . At full speed it isn't to loud , usually it comes on and only needs to go to medium speed to get the job done and is very quiet . At low speed and sleep mode you cant even hear it . The house smells fresher and I am breathing better now . I bought another one for a friends place yesterday as she suffers with allergy's also. Over all very happy , Everything is better than I expected !
