Very classy performer enjoyed boxed set very much

Was shocked at how Frankie's voice matured as he aged! Frankie fans will enjoy this collection which starts when he was a teenager through his years of recording! The Italian love songs show a real maturity to his voice, different from the thin nasal sounding teenybopper voice on the early recordings. Not so much a fan of the early stuff but LOVE the tunes once his voice matured!

The British Invasion really did leave it's mark on the early 60's teen idols....But their music will always be "Made in America"..and still proud to play them Loud and Proud!!

GREAT TO HAVE ALL OF THESE ALBUMS ON ONE COLLECTION.

Over 100 recordings across 4 CDs feature on this Frankie Avalon box set, and all for a few pounds makes this set really worth the money.The recordings on this set range from released material from 1954 up until 1962. They feature LPs, singles and other bits. Probably the most interesting inclusion on this album is Frankie Avalon's first ever single with some fine trumpet playing back when he was 11 years old. Not only is this sought after, it proves that Frankie Avalon DID have musical talent (of course he did) and was more than simply a 'teen idol' as he's often dismissed.The recordings featured on here ranges from Rock 'n' Roll, Swing, Easy Listening and Pop. The big hits all feature here too, so you're getting the favourites 'Venus', 'Why' and many others. Personally, some of the cover versions can't compare to the originals (although they're okay, hearing the original versions of the Rock 'n' Roll cover recordings on disc 1 for example would be recommended), but that's not to say they're bad as Avalon for me does a good version of Fats Domino's 'I'm Walkin'' and 'De De Dinah' shows Avalon at his best. He also sings good ballads and more teen-styed Rock 'n' Roll/Pop such as 'Just Ask Your Heart'.The main issue the lack of sleeve notes. Yes, lots of pictures are given, but would be nice for a booklet of information included instead of the small printed notes on the back of the CD fold-out case. However, with so much included on here for a few pounds you can't really go wrong if you're looking for a bargain, and with Avalon's range of styles there should be plenty, if not, something for you to enjoy. To his credit in his late 70s it is great to know Avalon STILL does concerts with his friends Fabian and Bobby Rydell and remains active with his fans.For an introduction, this is one to look for as it has all his main hits and lots of rarities and forgotten bits.

A great value item not only in content but in price containing about half of Frankie Avalon's Chancellor recordings. Over 100 recordings, but some greats and some weak ones and odd missing items such a "Ponchinello" etc! Let's hope they get around to volume 2. All in all a great value box set. Dates included, but no composers/orchestras listed.
