Menorah Seven Branches The 7-branch menorah is one of the oldest religious Jewish symbols. It originated from the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem in which is was placed and used daily and since continues to be a symbol of the Jewish faith. The Seven branch menorah can be found in all synagogues and Jewish homes. Unlike the 9-branch Chanukah menorah, the seven branch menorah has no Shamash (servant) and is the menorah which was mentioned in the bible, the priests in the Temple would light the 7 branch menorah every evening and it would burn day and night. In modern synagogues, a single flame (usually electric) represents this ancient custom.
