These shoes - a bit pricey at $400 - do not disappoint. Beautifully made of clearly superior materials - and made in the US! Bravo. I have long been an admirer of good quality shoes, but my prior standby - Johnson & Murphy's - are no longer made in the US, at least not most of them, with the expected fall off in quality and the appearance of a shoddy grade of leather. These shoes more than replace my old J&Ms.

When you buy an Allen Edmonds shoe at $290, a person expects a certain level of quality. I ordered these shoes and paid for Saturday NDA delivery so I would have them in time for an interview. The shoes arrived on Saturday but when I opened the box from Amazon I was sadly disappointed. One of the shoes looked great, but the other looked like it was a practice shoe that the intern put together. It had glue underneath the varnish and a notch taken out of the side that was partially filled with glue.I called Amazon right away and asked them to send another pair shipped Next Day Air. I am hoping that this was a fluke and the next pair should be of higher quality. I am put off that this pair actually made it through their quality control check.Update:I sent an email to Allen Edmonds letting them know about the shoes that I received and added a couple pictures. They replied quickly, apologized for the problem and explained that the notch in the sole was from where they started the welt joint and didn't fill it in or sand it before moving on to the next step. I guess that is a normal part of the process but was skipped somehow. I'm not sure how that made it past QC but I guess stuff happens.Amazon sent another pair the next day and they look perfect. I'm happy with the shoes and hopefully the next pair down the road will arrive in good shape. Chances are, this pair will get re-boxed up by Amazon and sent to someone else (-:

I'm in love with this shoe. I'm breaking them in right now and my office smells of fresh leather and the shoe has that slight creak of high quality leather flexing and molding to the shape my foot. People have noticed. The quality construction of this shoe is evident once it's in your hands - this is by far the nicest pair of shoes I have ever owned. The attention to detail is incredible from the metal washers that are inlaied behind each shoelace hole to the AE label on the inside. The only problem is that it's been a messy winter here and I don't want to get them wet so I've been hesitant to wear them often! I want to go smell them and rub them again right now - is that odd?As many reviews have indicated, these run large in length and small in width. I wear a 8.5D in everything else and ended up with a 7.5D in this shoe. Had a 7.5E would have been available I think it would have fit perfectly. The D width is a little snug for me now but I expect the break in to make things right. I did use the AE online sizing tool and even verified that the print outs were scaled properly and it recommended 8.5D and they were enormous.

When I first purchased these shoes they looked too perfect to wear. They certainly look great and will get you tons of complements from your snobby coworkers. But they are really tight fitting at first. It took me a couple of dozen wears to finally feel like my feet were going to handle the pain. I really like these shoes though and they have this awesome western style toe design. I own a pair of italian dress shoes from nordstrom, and I think these are superior in design and construction. Every piece of these shoes displays the hand-crafted look, even the soles. They also have a great sounding clack sound on marble floors, so if you're following somebody walking too slow they hear you behind them.I bought the Allen Edmonds shoe polish and it is decent, but I'm going to try Kiwi next time. I would recommend buying AE shoe trees compared to other brands. AE trees are better than the ones I have from Nordstrom because they are larger and fill out the shoe more. I think they have helped keep the shoes looking new. The shoes also smell good all day because the cedar absorbs the moisture.

Still very new, so I can't give any review of how they wear after time, but I can say that, whereas I am a typical 10.5 (D), I wear a 10 (E) in this shoe because the last is long and narrow. I can also say that the leather of these is very rigid when you first get them, but hopefully they will loosen, soften and conform to my feet with time and wear. I can also say that they are a very nice looking shoe and the toe is not as pointed as some other shoes/brands I have tried. I am only giving them 3 stars right now because they have not earned more, but, hopefully, I can come back and upgrade them if they wear well. [Edit] After having these shoes for a few months, and I wear them about once a week, not only am I very pleased with their looks and construction, they now wear and feel much better. They are not the most comfortable pair of dress shoes I own, but being the only pair of handmade shoes I own, it is possible that the comfort will continue to improve over time.

So I finally decided to stop buying a new pair of Bostonians every year and took the AE plunge. I literally live in dress shoes 45-60 hours a week and will continue to for years to come(hopefully less hours). So I am considering these an investment, not just in my wallet, but also in support and comfort.I have heard you can wear these comfortable right out of the box. So I put them on and went for a walk around the office block for lunch. It is like I have been wearing them for weeks already. The leather is already adjusting to my feet. I actually had to tighten them when I got back to the office and they look incredible. I use these mainly for more formal events, for which they are well suited. They are comfortable (mainly) but I like to line the soles with Full Grain 5.5 oz Leather to make them more wearable at long events. Also, preserves the shoes. when the insoles get dirty/worn, I change them. Picture shows method (I get the leather @ Amazon).Style: I prefer a slightly rounder look in the toe, but I am told by women around me that their pointier look is more modern. After returning one pair that were too small, I picked this up when by fluke I noticed a pair in a better size had been returned. The price was ridiculously inexpensive but I would have paid willingly paid the higher price.

This is my first pair of Allen Edmonds. My typical dress shoe in my closet is in the $100 range.I don't know if this pair is 4× better than my other shoes but it does feel like a better quality shoe. It seems to me like a $400 shoe.I may buy more AE in the future. My pair does seem to be a 'seconds' but very little is wrong with the pair I received.

I cannot believe that Amazon did not even check the item before shipping it. The item was old and worn to be resole!!!! Unbelievable and outrageous!!!! Fortunately, customer service was kind to replace the item (the least they can do, otherwise it's pure fraud). This is not my first pair of AE, let me tell you that I see the quality of AE deteriorating...Got replacement item and those are definitely factory second!!!! Allen Edmonds, if you read this, your quality control is crap!!!!! You or Amazon is selling these items as new and your expect people to pay premium for a crappy shoes???? Make in USA??? Even China has better quality than that. BTW, I own more than 30 pairs of high end shoes, over 500$ to 1000$ some pairs (Alden, Carmina, Vass etc) You can't even match their quality,not a bit!!! At the price your are selling, it's call theft!!!!

Love the product

Received seconds with a few defects on one shoe. There was a darker spot of color on top of it (close to the laces) and there was a defect on the finish of the stiches under the sole. I called Amazon and they gave me the choice to have a refund but there was no other shoe available so they gave me a 20% discount wich is acceptable.
