A first class history of John 'Mad Jack' Fuller
Annette Lloyd Thomas has written a peerless biography of Mad Jack, covering his birth, life and death. Having studied him in any case (a) because I live near his 'sites of life' and have photographed them - also because I write articles about him for Hastings Independent Press, I feel she has done a service to all who buy the book. The controversy over his 'slavery money' is explained dispassionately with no 'woke campaigning' - leaving it up to you the reader to decide based on your own stance. But the money he received by serial accidental family legacy from the plantations was spent in good part on JMW Turner's art and Michael Faraday's brilliance. Fuller's financial underpinning of the life boat, light house, and many institutions shows him a man of vision - despite the occasional glass of wine and arguments with the Speaker. Thanks to Annette for a fascinating book about an amazing life.

Fabulous book
Buy this book! It’s absolutely beautiful and a fascinating read. You learn about the many strings to his bow and are immersed in drawing and historical artefacts that bring it all alive. I don’t know the author or have any connection with the publisher. I just hope it gets plenty of sales because it deserves it.

Brilliant book!
This brilliant book is thoroughly researched and well-written, telling the complete story of the English Squire “Mad Jack” Fuller. It is accompanied by some lovely illustrations of the legendary follies as well as portraits of the Fuller family, in a beautiful new hardback book. I certainly recommend this - it’s a fascinating read!
