Saved me HOURS of digging...
Short version - it works perfectly and quickly (5 minutes), if you have one of these types of large pop-up sprinklers at your home it's a must have. If you know what you're doing, buy it, it's the best $8 you'll ever spend in comparison to digging it out.So the genius that installed my sprinkler system before I bought the house used the SIDE connections not the bottom ones. Meaning you cannot simply unscrew the large pop-up sprinkler (Orbit Pulse series XL or Rainbird Maxi-Paw series) and replace it as easily as you would a light bulb (unscrew the old and screw the new one on). Instead, you can A. Dig it up, cutting out the pipe, then replacing with new pipe and fittings along with a new sprinkler. OR - B. you can buy this gem of a tool and replace only the internal parts.Buy your replacement / donor sprinkler, then buy this tool. With this tool and only this tool, (or one similar in design) you can simply insert it into the old sprinkler (it even has a curved spoon to help you get under the spring-loaded lid) once in, pull it up a little then insert the tool fully, making sure the wrench engages the large hex head at the bottom and the top u-shape goes under the nozzle around the stem (see photo) - keeping the whole thing in the up position. Then simply unsecrew it going the standard counter-clockwise direction. Lift the entire assembly still connected to the tool out. Then pull the two ends of the sprinkler stem away from one another and the tool should be released (or you can just pull the tool out, but be careful as the sprinkler assembly may snap back and pinch a finger). Now repeat the process with the replacement/donor sprinkler, but do not detach the tool from it. You should now have the tool with the replacement internals in your hand. Lower the tool and the donor assembly into the can and rotate it counterclockwise until you feel it engage the threads (this is not the time or place for accidentally cross-threading the can so this extra step will save you time and money) then after you feel it's in the correct starting point for the threads you can start screwing it in (clockwise) until it's snug, don't force it. Since the tool is still holding it up, now is the best time to adjust the sprinkler pattern - set your start and end points without getting wet. To remove the tool, pull up slightly on the lid of the sprinkler and begin to wiggle the tool out. I found it easier to separate the top u-shaped portion from the stem first, then turn the tool at an angle and lift it up off the bottom hex at the same time, then wiggle it out and lower the lid to the sprinkler. You're done. - It's truly a 5 minute job that would have taken me hours of digging.Good luck!

Huge labor and time saver
I no longer have to dig up sprinklers. This is a huge time saver and works exactly as expected. I change out two sprinkler heads in no time. This wrench is “sold out” at every hardware store locally. The price for this on Amazon was twice as much as what the local stores charge. Probably cheaper if you can buy locally.

Works well
No issues. Worked like a charm for me. A must if you're adjusting impact sprinkler heads (such as Rain Bird Maxi-paw) even on a semi-regular basis. I'm a residential homeowner and I seem to have to make adjustments every year, so this tool has now come in very handy for me.
