Bullying at School: What We Know and What We Can Do

I used this book as part of my master's thesis on analyzing bullying policies in schools. I based my study design around Dr. Olweus' definition of bullying since he a leading expert in the field. This book is a great read for anyone interested in learning more about bullying and what to do about it. Whether your kid is being bullied or is a bully him or herself, it's worth a read. Olweus' research has been conducted primarily in Europe, though they still remain relevant when discussing bullying in the US. It's just important to work with your kid's school to try and implement some of the techniques he suggests.

Dr. Dan Olweus is widely regarded as the father of bullying research and prevention. This primer should be in the library of every educator, counselor, and parent who is concerned about bullying in schools. The famous Olweus Bullying Prevention Program resulted from Dr. Olweus' work and is considered the "gold standard" of school bullying prevention programs.

Finally had a junior student "come clean" that they had been bullied since in kindergarten! It shocked me and disappointed me that I had not seen the indicators. Olweus spells out the bullying circle and that not only the victim but the bully as well are harmed by this pervasive human behavior. Culture, socio-economic class, rural, urban, public or private bullying happens around the world.Perhaps the most shocking; most bullying occurs inside the walls of our schools! It is like shooting fish in a barrel for a bully. It is not just part of growing up. It is a pernicious, hateful behavior that can only be stopped with awareness on the part of educators, school systems and state departments of education.The research is somewhat dated but still has relevance in today's world!

Sometimes the classics are classics for a reason! Olweus still is used as the basis for bullying research and solutions.

This easy to read book provides a comprehensive review of the dynamics of bullying-a must read for school administrators, counselors and teachers.

The best general book in the subject with a good deal of research behind.

A program that needs to have everyone on the same page

This book is written by the guru of bullying and its effects. Staff can participate in a taught program and become certified as well. Prevention is the key.

Il donne le résultat d'enquêtes menées dans les écoles et donne quelques faits méconnus ou oubliés (la prévention commence par la présence d'adultes dans les cours d'école).Il continue par la présentation de son programme diffusé dans le monde entier : actions dans la classe, dans l'école, avec les parents...En bref, il donne des bases saines. Un grand bol d'air frais pour un livre plus tout jeune.
