very good natural product
it is a nice setup really convenient and the stones are real not reconstituted in any way also the wood holder is a nice touch over plastic. You can get a razor sharp edge with this, you do not have to use nearly the effort like other products require just remember it is a good idea to give your stones ( Arkansas only ) about 3 or 4 med-thin coatings of oil over about a three day period and let them sit in between to ready them for use so they will float the metal shavings which are very fine. You will not regret buying these once you have them and enjoy the feel of using them as well as the edge you can achieve even if you are not real adept at hand sharpening, then there is the old adage practice makes perfect. : )

Works well for my kitchen knives. Made in USA!
Great product! Made in USA. Originally I was going to buy the knife sharpener recommended by America's Test Kitchen. But that product has a tendency to scratch up the sides of the knife. So, I decided to get Dan's Tri-Hone. I thought it would be hard to sharpen knives manually. But after watching a few videos online, I figured I can do that. In a few minutes, I have a very sharp chef's knife. The Arkansas Medium and Arkansas Fine are great for kitchen knives. They'll give your knife a fine edge. I didn't use the carbide whetstone, because my knives are in pretty good condition.

Worth it!
I am a noob at sharpening and was using a cheap pull-through sharpener for my D2 steel fixed blade. That cheap sharpener absolutely ate the metal off my knife and scratched up the oxide finish on the side of the blade...the only good thing that it did was somewhat correct the horrible factory bevel on my cheap knife, but the edge was so dull that I literally ended up using my knife as a paper weight :'(After watching lots of YouTubes I came across Rough Rooster Knife Sharpening (highly recommend), and I decided to go with Dan's. These 8" stones are worth their weight in gold! If I had the money I would have bought the 10" set, but these are fine for my ~4" blade. It took me a few hours on the coarse stone to fix damage the cheap sharpener did and get the hang of the manual movements. The little sharpening guide helps me a lot, it will be awhile until I build up the muscle-memory to hold the correct angle. Finally, now on to the actual stones!Medium stone: I love the feel/feedback of the medium stone, amazing how it "tells" when I am holding the angle right. It still took me hours on the medium stone, but D2 is a hard steel, and now things are really starting to click! At this point I spent 10 hours on a jacked-up knife, it has a sharper edge than any knife from the factory, but not razor sharp.Fine stone: I only did 10 passes on each side of the blade, then 9 then 8 etc. and I am amazed! No, not shaving sharp, but very close! Cut myself pretty good just by rubbing my thumb lightly on the blade. I am very curious what a solid hour spent on the fine stone would do, but right now my thick camping/ outdoor knife is sharper than any kitchen knife I have held. Now that I have a hang of the process, I'm sure I can resharpen this knife in 40 minutes, half of that for normal stainless steel blades. After all of this I took brand-new Scotch scissors and spent 10 minutes total on the Medium and Fine, they are now 3x sharper haha! These stones will last longer than I will, they won't wear away like diamond plates or water stones.

Very nice...
I love to sharpen my knives with stones. I really like the size of this. Works very well with all sizes of knives. I have been looking and reading for some time on new stones. This is perfect and the price is great. I would like to know if I should treat the wood base and the wood with the stones. Some type of oil, something to seal the wood for washing and using water on the coarse stone?

Great stones.
After trying many sharpening devices, including electric, I went back to Arkansas stones and I'm glad I did. These are excellent . It's kind of soothing and rewarding to slowly work on a knife and have it come out better than other sharpeners I tried. Once you get the knife sharp your touchups take almost no time.
