much valuable info
As a new golfer, I’m glad I found this book early on. It gives me a different viewpoint and how to play the game and I’m sure it will improve my scores

Very, impressed but skeptical
The book was exceptionally written. Kudos to Eric and his online collaborator. Little taken back that most links came back as high risk from Norton. I will be going through Kindle but permissive to online content.

10,000 words when 100 would do
Written like a term paper selling other works by the author, the good, but straightforward ideas in this long winded book don’t feel worth the effort. The material would be easier to digest in a shorter, more direct style. A good editor would make this a chapter in one golf strategy book.

Helped me see golf courses with new eyes...saved strokes the very next day!
It's hard to believe how much this book helped me adopt a strategic view of golf courses in such a short period of time. I now have a framework, or a way to organize information in my head into three "buckets". The idea that each course is a competition like a chess game between me and the course designer somehow clicked inside me, and I've started looking at course layouts with new strategic interest and insight I didn't know I possessed. The author illustrates the concepts with examples from teaching his students on the course, and I could imagine myself with them, falling into the same traps, racking up a double bogey or higher. Alignment off the tee box is important, and the story of Charles's "Chuck Stop" comes to mind every time I tee off now. Great parable about how tough courses are designed to throw off your perceptions. Books by other authors provide a lot of strategic rules of thumb for lowering scores, but I needed something more… I needed more of a background on golf course architecture and why rules of thumb are so valuable. This highly detailed but readable and short book provided just what I needed.

Good, but simple introduction to the topic
This is a good, but simple introduction to the topic. I was left wanting more information. As other reviews stated, the author pads the content with references to his other books and by repeating information. However, the Kindle price is reasonable and I am considering one of his other books.

Course Management
Course management is not something I think about often while golfing. I usually just like to hit the fairway, hit the green, stay out of the water, etc. This book gives you specific, practical advice on how to think about where your shot and future shots may go. I'm sure I'll be able to shave off a few shots off my score.

Where's The Beef?
Don't get me wrong there is plenty of beef in the book. However, there is way too much of extraneous padding. Remember when you used to do term papers? And they had to be a certain number pages?Well that is how Eric approached this book. He has some valid points and I took them to heart. But if a book was ever in need of the Cliff Notes / Readers Digest version, this was it.I Suspect all the books in his series are like that but I will never know.I am guessing that if he trimmed 50% of the fluff and did the same with his other books, he could combine them into one book that would really be worth owning. It seems like a transparent attempt to maximize revenue.

Helpful
I thought this would be too technical for me but able to take away some very well made points.

A good coating on strategy
I was expecting much more on a strategy and course management versus different holes and hazards. Bringing people following their handicap to different way to approach short and long par 3 and so on....What are the trick the architect is bringing us.The book does not bring exactly and extensively what I was expecting but give relevant information.Worth to read and easy to read.

forward thinking
makes sense of how to navigate around the golf course rather than try to manage it! Can't wait to put into practice.

Good product
Makes you think what you should do, however the " should I go for it attitude will always be there"
