Love this house bell
Love this product!!!Originally, I thought that I was ordering a bell to put on my front door, but when the product arrived and the rod was longer, I realized that I had purchased a house bell and I was equally thrilled. The quality is wonderful, so sturdy and lovely. Very clean details. Easy to install, but I would recommend putting a narrow piece of PVC around the rod so that it will keeps dirt/dust from building up on the rod (the rod will be inside your wall between the exterior of your house where the turn knob is and the interior wall where you install the actual bell). The piece of pvc was less than $3 at HD.The sound of this bell is so beautiful--reminiscent of bells from the 1920's and 1930's and I can hear it throughout my whole house.Would be a GREAT housewarming gift for anyone who purchases an older home or who appreciates nostalgia, mechanical bells, and great quality.

High quality bell and looks great
High quality and looks very stylish on our door. Instructions could use some better instructions like what drill bit sizes to use. Measure the hole size first using the flat plat with the turn knob. There is a recessed cylinder that goes in the hole.

Think of a tricycle ring ding bell only industrial strength
This is absolutely the best doorbell. No wires. no batteries, just an old fashioned twist of the wrist and I can hear it throughout my old two story house. Easy to install and looks great

beautiful
Came in damaged box with no instructions. The rod is 10 times longer than the thickness of our door, so we will have to cut it, if we can, and may not work at all.

A nice touch
Used this item to replace the long missing original hand tuned doorbell on a turn of the century home. It is attractive, authentic style, well made and reasonably priced. Delivery was prompt as promised.

Beautiful Victorian doorbell
I love this doorbell! I actually got several of them so I am a little obsessed with them. They are very well made, a nice large size and the finish and markings are a work of art. You didn’t know you wanted one until you have one. They come with a long enough turn post that can accommodate an historic home with thick walls, but the post can be cut down to a length that fits your entryway perfectly. We have one at our front door and one at our back door. Most people won’t know what it is, but once you show them, they’ll love ringing it. It is quite the conversation piece.

Well made, but instructions are lacking
This twist bell is a sturdy, well-made piece. There is no plastic, it's all cast brass and metal. The sound is very pleasant... reminds me of an old ringing phone! It does matter which way to install the bell (more on that below). The finish on the bell and door knob plate is made to look like distressed copper. I don't care much for the look, but that's just my personal opinion. We'll be installing this on our cabin anyway. We are DIYers, so installation won't be a problem. But for those who are mechanically challenged, the instructions are poor. The instruction "manual" is two pieces of printed paper that look like they've been torn out of a book and are paperclipped together (as shown in my photos). Not very professional. The information is very basic, as you can see.The instructions state to drill holes for the mounting screws, but don't specify a diameter, or that you need a Philips screwdriver. Likewise, they don't specify what size hole to drill for the shaft. 3/8" diameter through will allow good clearance for the shaft portion. But the twist knob plate has a protrusion on the back (see pictures), so you must drill a 7/8" diameter counterbore about 1/4" deep to flush-mount the plate. Otherwise, you'd need to make a 1/4" thick spacer behind the twist knob plate. This "kit" also does not have any type of gasket or seal. For most installations, this isn't a big deal. But you may want to use some silicone caulk around the mounting holes and shaft hole before screwing down the plate.Unless you are installing this thing in a 15-1/4" to 16" thick door or wall, you will need to cut the shaft length down! Obviously, if you are handy and have the proper tools, this isn't a problem. But folks who may think this is simply "buy it and bolt it on", or those that don't have the tools needed to cut the shaft material, they might be disappointed. You will need a hacksaw, cutoff wheel or sawzall to cut the shaft to your door or wall thickness + 1".The instructions also don't specify which way to mount the bell. Mounting the clangers inside the bell pointing down or to the right or left can muffle the sound (if a clanger is touching a bell when it stops). Mounting them pointing up can make the chime resonate a bit longer. The instructions should be improved to provide hole diameters, explain that the shaft needs to be cut down and how long to cut it, and how to orient the bell clangers. It would also be wise to apply a bit of silicone grease or graphite to the inner gears and moving parts of the bell before installing it.Overall, this is a solid piece that should make a great conversation starter for your guests. I'm knocking one star off the rating for the poor instructions.
