Lifesaver.
I have Aspergers, and I find it difficult to understand people's emotions in real life - so writing a novel has been rather tricky for me. This book, however, is god send! It is what I have needed for SO long. It has helped battle my continuous writer's block which has weighed me down for months on end. I ended up buying two of the other books in the series too (which I also recommend!), and I plan to get the remaining ones. Fantastic book(s), a must-have for aspiring writers like me.

Absolutely pivotal!!
As a writer I find that I can envision a story and place it all together, but the mind's eye can only see so much. This book in particular is very good for filling in extra details, like I might write 'Dave frowns "I didn't know you cared" whereas if I look up anger, it'll help describe the scene better 'Dave's nostrils flair and his eyes widen, he snarls "I didn't know you cared".There are a collection of other books in this series and I highly recommend them all.Ben Hurren ('The Final Year' and 'Blood & Power')

Inspirational! An essential series for every writer, author and storyteller
If you are a writer, aspiring or very much established, if you love to write fiction, and want to make your characters as authentic, identifiable, and realistic as they can be, if you also want a great, and deep insight into the psychology of people, of your characters, and create far finer character depth, then do not hesitate and moment longer. Buy this series of books. They are an invaluable collection for every writer, no matter how experienced or new to the craft, and I absolutely love them. Packed full of insight and inspiration but paradoxically accessible/swift enough to access without losing your literary thread. They have also enhanced and inspired my fiction in such a profound way. There are only 10 books that have made it to my writing desk (and have read hundreds), only 10 books that live there – and three of these are in this brilliant and inspired fiction rising series. I cannot recommend them highly enough, and that comes from someone who rarely writes reviews but absolutely adores writing fiction.

Really useful
A frankly excellent book that does exactly what it says in one volume. So good, in fact, that I find myself desperately wishing it covered more character motivations. (The book is not lacking in those, so to speak, but using it one has to be somewhat reductionist with the core emotion you are looking for.) Would also have benefited from a section about smiling; lots of the categories include various kinds of smiles, but as a writer there's only so much plain smiling characters can do.Nonetheless, well worth the cost and it's proved invaluable in editing so far.

Best Book for Writers Without Exception
Without exception the best non fiction book for writers I have ever come across. This book has excelled both my writing depth and quality. I have learnt countless lessons on writing emotions and also how to replicate those lessons across other aspects of my writing. Whether you're a new writer or an old one, you will find benefits from this book. I particularly like how it gives both internal cues to the emotions as well as external body language cues.
