DC16 Protein Skimmer

EDIT: Although it appeared that the company might help me figure out the problem, they never followed up and left me stranded otherwise I would give a 5 star review. I finally figured out why the skimmer would not consistently work and was very erratic, either overflowing or too far down the cup to product anything.In the process of trying everything I could think of including setting the water height to 9" as suggested in the literature, I finally started adjusting it up and down until I found that it takes 10.5 inches of water column for it to work properly. Once I set that level, it has worked perfectly for about 2 months now. So If you understand that, then his skimmer is an excellent skimmer. But do not expect the company to be very helpful at all.I left the original review below.I finally got connected to the person who takes care of issues with the skimmers. So far it looks promising. Once this process is complete I will give more info and a correct star rating above according to how my issue is handled.DUSGUSTING!I purchased this product and from day one it has been very inconsistent. When tuning it in it will skim for a day or two and then the water column will either fall back or begin to overflow like crazy. So I'll re-tune it in and in a few hours the same thing happens over and over again ad nauseam! ABSOLUTELY NO HELP FROM THE DISTRIBUTORS.

The pump operated beautifully but died after about 18 months. I purchased a new pump from the company (pretty good customer service) and it's back skimming its heart out....I actually bought a second unit to keep in reserve "just in case."By using regularly replaced filter socks, activated carbon, GFO, 37,500 square feet of MarinePure ceramic biomedia, live Fuji rock, two sumps (one on alternate lighting), only RO/DI water and this excellent skimmer run on #8, I have now gone 3 months without any water changes and my water quality is excellent....

Purchased a DC16 rated @ 250 gals for my 135 marine tank ,skimmer started off great but began showing issues after 14 months and then just died,tried to contact company ,finally reaching them thru facebook since they no longer had a web site for troubleshooting questions,they were willing to sell me the parts I needed,really,my previous skimmer cost half the price and lasted more than twice as long,that is RELIABILITY,14 months is not ,save your money and buy from a company that you can communicate with if a problem arises!!!
