I followed the instructions, rinsed the filter with cold water, then changed the water twice. It filters water slowly. I tested the water’s mineral levels afterward, and it was in the green zone, around the 80s.The water tastes clean, and the quality is great for the value. I’m happy with the results so far!

I've been using Brita pitcher and other water filtration solutions for decades, and I find that the brita filter modules typically do better and last longer than off-brand replacements. I don't think I have a need for their more advanced filter inserts, so I don't buy them. But these do great for what I need.The water in my home is exceptionally hard, and being the sort of frugal person that I am, I'm not keen to invest in a whole-home water softener system. Those are expensive to install and maintain, and the water hardness is only mildly inconvenient in all the places it manifests. However, the tap water tastes like unprocessed lake water most of the year, especially when there's a big algae bloom in my local source reservoirs.Originally, I would top off brita pitchers and place them into my fridge so I always had clean, cold drinking water available. However, due to the particulates in the water, this would consume my filters faster than I felt was acceptable. I created my own water purification process for drinking water to minimize on filter purchases - I first distill the water, which removes any hard mineral deposits, but there's still something else in the water that distills at or below the temperature of water. After distillation, I fill Brita box filters with the distillate, and they remove any other particles or non-water chemicals and bad tastes from the water. Also, because the water goes into the filter already distilled of the majority of the dissolved solids, the filters last considerably longer! After the water has been filtered, I pass them through another process that leaches an appropriate amount of trace mineral electrolytes back into the water to ensure that when the final product is ingested, it can have the maximum level of hydration properties for my body.I'll keep buying brita's filters until the day I decide I want to spend money on a more costly filtration or water softening solution.
