MSR Dragonfly? Buy it now and don't look back.
The Quietstove was a balm for me. Last year I purchased a MSR Dragonfly to accompany my Universal Wisperlite so we could cook for a total of 12 backpackers faster. I love both stoves for their different primary functions, but the Dragonfly is significantly louder than every other stove I've ever used in 45 years of cooking on the trail. Even louder than a butane fueled Jetboil - which I use at lower altitudes for different reasons -(virtually instant coffee anyone?) Let me be clear - the noise of the MSR Dragonfly was not enough for me to return it for a second Whiperlite, but enough that I wished it to shut up and let me drink my coffee in peace. The factory plate over the gas outlet does its job of diffusing the flame respectably but does so with a roar that will literally wake everyone within 100 feet. It was my alarm clock more than once. At least I didn't miss breakfast, right? There's my silver lining. My crew and I used the Quietstove / Dragonfly combination over the next 300 or so miles of backpacking this past year. The Quietstove solved my only inconvenience with the Dragonfly. It rendered the stove silent, well silent enough to allow nearby campers to sleep and to maintain a normal speaking voice while preparing food. The stove's performance was on par with the factory pieces from sea level to 10,000 plus feet. Maybe a few seconds longer to boil water, but significantly more quiet and we quit yelling while making breakfast, much to our sleeping neighbors relief. Also, if your sole purpose is to boil water - the Dragonfly is not the better option. The Whisperlite will win every time in a white gas stove. The Dragonfly is used to actually and directly cook food instead of heating water. Ahhh - real food! On the trail no less! The Quietstove fits into the Dragonfly snugly after a good heating and stays pinched in place once cooled without randomly falling out. I did not need to change out or adjust any parts and the legs folded around the new configuration of the Quietstove without any adjustments. This was important since we often started dinner after dark and in the cold. I can remove the Quietstove from the Dragonfly easily with a bit of torque from my thumb for inspection or cleaning after a messy cook, but I stopped worrying about losing it almost immediately once I felt the snug embrace after a good heating and cooling cycle. My advice - Don't mess with it after it cools. Playing with the parts loosen them and cause them to disappear when you don't want them to. Heat it, cool it, and don't touch it unless you must. I had only one under burn (or whatever they call it when the flame collects under the stove instead of outside the burner where it is supposed to be). This was easily and instantly remedied because I read the warning and instructions before hitting the trail. None of us allowed it to happen again, Knowledge is power - and safety. Read the paperwork. This item works as advertised and for my allergy clogged ears, a blessing. If you have an MSR Dragonfly and don't care for the jet propelled roar - I can't recommend it highly enough. You will hear yourself think again. If you don't mind the noise of the factory oven, don't walk away yet. The Quietstove provides a better (IMO) and more uniform pattern of heat to the bottom of the pan. This allows you to maximize the unique purpose of the Dragonfly - to simmer. The standard diffusion plate did not spread the flame uniformly, which after a major $$ stove purchase designed to simmer, was disappointing. Yes the Quietstove was a pretty penny for what it is, but I believe I got everything I paid for and more. Bon Appetit!

It solves the noise problem and still produces a very nice flame.
I ordered the 107 V2 model for my MSR Dragonfly stove. To be honest the noise doesn't bother me but it seems to annoy everyone else so I bought this cap after a trip to the Grand Canyon where my son was mortified by the sound of our jet engine boiling water for coffee at 6AM. Does it work? Yes, it improves on the standard flame spreader plate in a few areas..... 1.) It produces a slightly wider blue flame at full throttle so the heat is more evenly spread over the bottom of a pot. 2.) It produces a very nice low flame and the flame stays spread wider at low settings too. 3.) It really does drop the noise level a very noticeable amount. Are there any downsides? Not really. It seems to light easily using the same fire steel I've always used. There's a slightly different technique. You have to let the preheating flame go out completely then relight the stove but, that's no big deal. The stove won't invert completely any longer when I fold it up but it will still tip up so the valve is vertical for packing. Anything else? Some people have noted that the cap will "set" in place once it's heated and cools down. Mine does not. After it cooled down, the cap lifted right off the burner with no effort. Once again, no big deal. I'll just pop it on and off since it takes almost no time or effort. I gave it 5 stars because it performs as advertised. It solves the noise problem and still produces a very nice flame. It is also built to last like most liquid fuel stoves. While the price is a little outrageous, I don't foresee ever buying another one of these unless I lose it. And now my kid won't be embarrassed when I make coffee at sunrise.

Thank-You Quiet Stove!
We have used the Quiet Stove for several months heavily under a variety of conditions (30C summer thru cold Canadian winter (sub -35C)) in both my Omni Fuel proper and Trangia Multi Fuel (modified with Omnifuel simmer control...beautiful combination in Trangia 25 & outback oven). The performance is exceptional and I would argue from our many days of use that it may actually improve the overall performance of the stove with better mixing and vaporization of white gas. It is true that you do need to prime stove a bit more (practical experience will dictate) but when primed the combustion is eloquent. Also of interest is that the flame is spread over a larger area which makes cooking with larger pots/ simmering more effective. My use ranges from high power snow melting, normal cooking (yes real cooking!) and we bake quite a bit. ( hard to match stargazing with fresh cinnamon buns ... but advise to get proficient in backyard before backcountry!). This stove services a family of 5 and is our only stove for backcountry hiking trips using 2-3L pots. It is nice to be able to chat at normal volume while making meals. I have used it with gasoline & diesel (to verify functionality, if required in time of need, and it does work, note be aware of the consequences of these fuels, burn it does, but get greedy on heat output and will be fighting joys of soot for a while). It works excellent as would expect with Primus Canisters (in all of these cases make the correct Jet adjustments!). An item to be aware of is that it does take a while for Quiet Stove to cool after intense use, be patient and don't repeat my mistake of being in a hurry & tossing it into snow to cool as it was a tedious task to get the oxidization out of the many flame holes. We have found nirvana. White gas performance to practically feed large crew and nearly the quiet bliss of our Trangia. thank-you Quiet stove!

Very quiet, distributes heat better, gets stuck making maintenance more time consuming.
The Primus Omnilite is a seriously loud stove. Pretty ridiculous, actually. For this reason I purchased the Quietstove Silent Muter Damper Cap, in the hopes of reducing decibels in the evenings. And it works. Really works. The difference in noise volume is pretty surprising. What's more, there is more control and more evenly distributed heat with this unit, since rather than going mostly straight up, the flame is dispersed sideways, while the tremendous heat of the cap also continue to deliver heat straight up. All great reasons to have this on hand. I plan to keep this available and in my stove system kit, but unless I'm really trying to lower decibels, I won't likely use this unless I really want quiet, or unless I am cooking, which requires better heat control and distribution on a wider base. The reason is around cleaning and maintaining the Primus Omnilite stove itself. The differences in metal expansion of this unit seems to create a very tight seal with the stove once you've passed some heat through it for a while. Even when cooled, the cap doesn't come off easily, and I worry about damaging the stove itself. The stove does require regular cleaning, so adding and removing this unit regularly has me worried. If there was a way to keep it from getting stuck, I would likely use this every time I bust out the Primus Omnilite, but as it, if I'm going for water boiling on winter backpacking trips, this will stay inside the backpack.

Greatly reduces noise; improves simmer control; makes priming easier.
I purchased the quietstove damper for the primus omnifuel and it works incredibly well. The noise level has gone down dramatically, and priming the stove is much easier with the damper. I bought the product primarily to be able to simmer with the omnifuel stove, and the damper has exceeded my expectations in allowing fine control of the heat output of the stove. There were many times when I thought the stove had burned out because it was so quiet and on such a low simmer. I made pancakes on a multi-day backpacking trip and they turned out perfect. This is an excellent product and I would absolutely recommend it for the primus omnifuel stove.

I have the Optimus Polaris and I love the stove except for 2 issues
I have the Optimus Polaris and I love the stove except for 2 issues. Its way too loud and using gas cartridges and it does not simmer too well. I believe that its because of the excess dead space under the burner plate. The Quietstove cap solves both those issues. First it quiets the stove tremendously, you don't realize how loud it is till you put this on. Second, the way it drops into the burner section minimizes the dead space and now the stove simmers on gas cartridges perfectly. On top of this the flame is more even and directed better. There is a copy muter out there but does not fit and drop down as well as this design. If you are on the fence about getting one, don't be. It was worth every cent!

A MUST-HAVE MSR STOVE ACCESORY
Possibly the best piece of camping gear I ever bought. While I love my MSR Dragonfly stove and its hardy invincibility, one tolerated a level of noise for cooking dinner by was which was insufferable. It was like working next to a corporate jet engine without any hearing protection. Not being able to hear the sounds of the forest, one was ever at risk of creature attack (well... that depends on your cooking skills, too, I suppose). Nevertheless, enter the QUIETSTOVE® SILENT MUTER DAMPER CAP for MSR stoves ! Problem solved. The noise level is so much further reduced and so easy on the ears that even while cooking, not-too-distant birds can be heard calling to one another. It will not be easy for creatures of the forest to sneak up on you now, will it? A hearty thanks to QuiteStove for significantly improving the quality of life around the campsite where an MSR Dragonfly preps chow!

Updated-Did not work for me but QuietStove took it back
Good instructions, just does not work right. If it is quieter, I could not notice a difference over stock. Thankfully the instructions warn you to look for signs the QuietStove damper is burning internally, because it kept burning inside on every attempt to use it. I made sure it was oriented correctly and fully seated but I noticed that no matter how I rotated it, there was always some hairline gaps where the base of this damper met the original bell housing around the jet. I always use a wind/heat deflector but I noticed that when I could get a good ring of blue flames from the QuietStove damper the wind would still negatively affect it despite the deflector. I never had this problem in stock configuration. On my first attempt starting from a cold stove, getting the fuel tube hot is more of a challenge since I do not have the dish of the original flame spreader. I ended up using a piece of cotton soaked with camp fuel which is one more thing I would need with my stove to light it in a controlled manner. With the fuel tube hot enough to atomize fuel, I opened the valve and the QuietStove damper was not putting out a ring of blue flames, instead the metal body was turning all kinds of colors (burning internally), so I closed the valve and let it cool. I tried again when it was cool enough for me to re-seat the damper. It produced a nice ring of blue flames this time so I began to think the first time was a fluke, so I put a pot of water on top and began timing for the rolling boil. Less than a minute on the watch and I heard the sound on the damper change so I pulled the pot off and sure enough the metal body of the damper was changing color from burning internally. I closed the valve and waited for the stove to cool enough to adjust and re-seat the damper again, and started over (also trying slightly different valve setting), but it was burning internally right away this time. Rinse and repeat and get nice ring of blue flames followed by the damper regressing to burning internally shortly after. I am well-versed in using the valve on the MSR XGK-EX (it is very sensitive and flame response has a long lag time). If the QuietStove damper works on your stove, perhaps you are lucky. I have used many other gas-burning camp stoves. This damper makes using my stove the most frustrating and inconvenient experience of any stove I have ever used. I cannot believe I spent a lot of money on this. I wanted comparison times to bring 800mL of water to a rolling boil over the stock-configured stove, but I could never get this to work properly long enough to see what it could do, but it did not appear to be putting off as much heat as the stock configuration. UPDATE: I thought I was going to have an expensive piece of metal I could not use, but Craig from QuietStove took it back long after the return window an refunded my purchase. QuietStove backed their damper.

QuietStove Silent MUTER Damper Cap (Simmer Cap)
QuietStove Silent MUTER Damper Cap for Camping and Backpacking Stoves, The quiet stove cap is a great addition for the Primus Omnifuel stove. I was considering selling my stove because as the stove comes out of the box it is only good for melting snow or boiling water, it does not simmer well. Now I have the Silent Cap (simmer cap) I will be using the stove a lot more.
