Great snaps for marine use...works with standard tool
Making a custom fit pontoon boat cover from a "universal". Bought these to go with the sea sense 73pc kit which included the hand tool as it did not include enough snaps for my project. Snaps fit exactly with the old boat snaps...fit and finish are good. These snaps seem a bit stronger than the sea sense (SS vs nickel brass). Cant really see a difference in the finish or snap pressure...but the crimp was definitely more consistent and strong with these. Was concerned as some reviews indicated the hand tool was too weak to crimp stainless steel fasteners, but I did about 20 sets with no issue at all. I can also confirm it is 50 snap sets....Not 25 of each piece as other kits advertise. Highly recommended.

very light duty poor quality
These are very cheap thin snaps. the worst I've ever seen or used. The stems on the buttons are too short and do not swage properly.. The stem metal is brittle and splits instead of swages ... the snap portion bends when you assemble them... do not make the same mistake I did ... these snaps will ALL have to be replaced because they WILL all fail.. what a mistake buying these. avoid these !

Not great for a boat cover
While overall these are ok and they are comparable to the others I've tried, these are still not heavy enough to use on a fitted boat cover. The stud receiver that holds the snap ring and that the post is flared onto (the inner part that actually does the snapping) is too thin and many of them let the post pull through after just one use.

They are not stainless steel. They are stainless steel COLORED.
Stainless steel? No, not stainless steel. Chrome plated brass. How do I know? Because I had to drill one out I set wrong. Also, buttons are smaller than standard so they don't fit snap tool making it difficult to use. Also, the snap portion is looser than standard snaps so it doesn't stay on the tool, either. Not worth the aggravation.Won't be ordering these again any time soon.

These are much better quality than the ones sold at my local marine ...
These are much better quality than the ones sold at my local marine supply, and cheaper as well. The metal is thicker and the sheen suggests they are a better grade of stainless. I hope they will hold up better than the ones I've been using. Note, this review applies to the snaps sold by Harvard Marine, I don't know if other sellers' products are identical.

Poor strength
Appearance of the snaps is good. However, when joining the two snap parts, the post that is supposed to mushroom to create a holding grip on the snap portion does not mushroom but more often breaks off due to the thinness of the post material. Due to this flaw and weakness, the snap head and snap body will easily break apart with very little force. These cannot be considered marine quality as a result.

Poor quality. Snaps deform and fail upon first use
Very disappointing. I used these snaps to for a boat cover and after adding and snapping in over 40 snaps, I went to unsnap them and most failed - the front and back deformed and pulled apart from each other (see pictures). I pulled off 8 and 6 failed. I added better quality snaps to my first boat cover and used it for 8 years before the boat cover finally gave out so I know how to pull off the snaps carefully. These are just really soft metal and do not meet the needs of the job for which they are intended.

NOT STAINLESS
These things suck. Should've just gone to Sailrite like I was going to, but was enticed by the fast Amazon shipping. Been on the boat a year and are already popping off and corroding.
