A: The zBoard storage line is assembled with 3M industrial adhesive so once it's assembled it's very secure and cannot be taken apart. Q: Are Way Basics products stackable? A: Stacking is perfectly fine as long as the units are assembled and used per assembly guides just make sure to attach units together using 3M adhesive. Q: How do I assemble Way Basics furniture? A: Peel, stick, done! Assembling Way Basics is fun, easy, requires no tools and best of all, is frustration-free. Our zBoards attach to each other with industrial-strength, double-sided adhesive strips from 3M. Your package includes an assembly guide with step-by-step pictorials. You can also follow this link to our help page for assembly videos and assembly guides. Q: Is the backer board required? A: The backing board is instrumental to providing the overall structural integrity of your Way Basics Products. Choosing to not use it will make the product susceptible to collapse. The backing board is like the spine that holds the product together. Q: How should I care for my Way Basics furniture? A: Just wipe it clean with a damp cloth using plain or slightly soapy water." Sharp or pointed objects can scratch the paper veneer, so take special care! Q: How strong is the double-sided adhesive tape? A: Very, very strong! We use only 3M brand industrial-strength adhesive tape on our products. To take full advantage of all that sticking power and get optimum adhesion, make sure your bonding adhesive surfaces are clean, dry, and properly joined. It works best if you put together your furniture in a room that's between 70° F to 100° F (21° C to 38° C). This super tape's bonds get stronger during the first 24 hours, place objects on top of your unit to adhere to the adhesive and keep in place. Q: Can I recycle Way Basics furniture when I'm done with it? A: Absolutely. All our products are made from paper, so at the end of its useful life, you can just recycle it in your curbside bin. Your furniture might even find its way back to Way Basics to begin another life as a new zBoard unit! Q: Does Way Basics furniture off-gas or container formaldehyde? A: No, Way Basics furniture does not "off-gas," contain formaldehyde or other toxic ingredients. Off-gasing occurs in the manufacturing process of particle board and MDF in which various types of formaldehyde are used. Q: Is the Way Basics packaging recycled too? A: Since packaging is just used to safely transport and protect your furniture, we'd rather keep it basic, recycled, and completely recyclable to ease the load on our environment. Please reuse or recycle your packaging when you're done with it. Q: My zBoard has minor residue/blemishes, is this normal? A: This is normal and is caused by friction from packaging materials we use to keep your product safe during shipping. To get your zBoards zesty clean, just wipe off with a slightly damp cloth and voila, problem solved! If it still doesn't come off or looks like damage, please contact us with your information here and select the product service icon. Q: Where is Way Basics furniture manufactured? A: Way Basics furniture is made on the beautiful island of Taiwan. Taiwan inherited advanced paper engineering and manufacturing processes enabling 74% of total paper production to come from recycled paper. Taiwan is also very eco-conscious recycling 55% of paper used, compared to 35% here in the United States. The Way Basics zBoard is non-toxic and contains no VOC or formaldehyde so it's safe for your home and our environment! Q: Can Way Basics zBoards be painted? A: Our products are paintable, but you will need to prepare the surface first before doing so. Make sure the surface is dry and free of any dust or other material that may hinder the adhesion of the paint. It will also be necessary to use a primer on the surface before painting to assure you get the best possible result. Because our products are water-resistant, painting directly on the boards without a primer will create the paint to “bead up” similar to what may happen if water comes into contact with the surface. When choosing a primer, we recommend using a product that will bond to surfaces such as paper, formica or a similar nonporous material. As long as you use a good primer, you will be able to use water-based paint and paint the product to your liking. Please note that painting Way Basics products are at your own risk with no returns or exchanges. Q: Can Way Basics zBoard be in humid environments? A: Humidity is not a problem unless moisture eventually builds up on the zBoard surface, which can lead to damage. Q: What kind of glue do you use in manufacturing zBoards? A: We use water-based glue that is completely environmentally friendly and recyclable too! Q: Are zBoards water-resistant? A: Yes, the exterior layers of the board are treated with a water-resistant material just like other finished wood veneers. If water gets on the zBoard surface, it will dry (though of course, it's best if you wipe it up like all spills). You'll want to keep water away from the furniture's edges and corners where it's a little more vulnerable to moisture. Again, we hate to sound like your mom, but if water spills, just wipe it up :)

Eco-friendly storage solution, but MUST be placed with long edges vertical (otherwise the shelves will fall apart).
Having had very good luck with the Way Basics (square) Storage Cubes that I bought 2½ years ago for my daughter's nursery, I decided to buy a couple of these (rectangular) Storage Cube Plus cubes in early 2014 to store some of her toys in. I chose the Expresso (dark brown) color, because it would blend in with the color scheme in our living room. Unlike the square cubes, which have held up for over 2 years without so much as a lean, the adhesive strips in these rectangular Cube Plus cubes began to fail after only 3 months, causing the edges of the cubes to separate. My 2 cubes were stacked on top of each other, so when the bottom cube gave way, both cubes ended up falling over. The load in the cubes wasn't particularly heavy, either - mainly lightweight, toddler-sized toys. I can't for the life of me figure out why the rectangular Way Basics Cube Plus cubes fell apart but the square Cubes have stayed intact, especially since the rectangular cubes came with a thick, cardboard "backboard," which you'd think would help to hold the Cube Plus together. We store only cloth items (lightweight blankets, stuffed toys, etc.), in the square Cubes, so perhaps the moral of the story is that only very lightweight items can be stored in Way Basics cubes. I definitely couldn't see these working for storing heavy, compact items like CDs/DVDs, vinyl records or books. Fortunately, I was able to press the boards back together after the Cubes Plus fell apart, so they're not completely unusable. However, we're only able to store soft, very lightweight toys in them now, so I have to find another storage solution for my daughter's plastic toys. I gave this item 3 stars instead of 2 or 1 because it is an eco-friendly alternative to toxic engineered wood products, and a budget-friendly alternative to expensive, natural solid wood shelving. But I wouldn't purchase Way Basics products again or recommend them to others unless they're going to be used to store fluffy items like lightweight sweaters or stuffed toys.Grade: C+UPDATE 9/2014: Shortly after writing this review, I was contacted by Way Basics Customer Service. They were very attentive and eager to help me resolve my issues with this product. I sent them some photos of my Storage Cube Plus cubes ... And, as it turns out, I had the cubes stacked the wrong way! Apparently, for maximum product integrity, the Storage Cube Plus must be placed with the long edges vertical. If the long edges of the cube are horizontal, that causes separation of the adhesive at the seams. Unfortunately for me, I was using each of these cubes to store two small canvas storage baskets Whitmor 6241-1501-Kid's Canvas Collection Tote, Small, Blue (of kids' toys) side-by-side, and they won't fit with the cubes in vertical orientation. So I had to make do with super-gluing the seams in place and putting the cubes back in horizontal orientation. However, I still can't give this product 5 stars because nowhere on the product instructions does it state that these cubes must be used in vertical orientation only. Something like this warrants a very clear warning on the package or in the manual/instructions, given that the cubes virtually fall apart if placed horizontally. Had I known this up-front, I wouldn't have purchased the Storage Cube Plus in the first place.Customer Service: AUpdated Product Grade: B

Fascinating
The cubes are totally awesome. I think I've bought around 30 of them already and replaced all bookshelves I had, plus using them for storage. This is a breakthrough technology that allows you to have the same strength with more than 2x lighter materials. You should check their website. If used properly, a 200 lbs person can stand on them. I am stacking them for bookshelves in 4 rows and have no problem with 4 rows fully stuffed with heavy books. Comments like "it feels too cheap so I wouldn't trust to put any weight on them" are pathetic. All I can think is "I find your lack of faith disturbing" (Darth Vader's quote) :)Pros:1. Extremely light. No furniture I know even remotely matches the lightness of these cubes.2. Portable. You can move them around very easily and stack the way you want. I'll move soon and I am thinking of just packing each cube in a cardboard box, without taking my stuff out of cubes. That's my plan and there's no reason to believe it won't work out.3. Look cool. White.4. The height of "Plus" cubes is just right to comfortably hold A4/Letter-size file folders. The height of "normal" ones is more appropriate for shorter books.5. Flexibility. You can buy as many as you want, and slowly add more.Cons:6. Building them takes time. Would take me about an hour to build 4-5 cubes (taking into account time needed to take the packaging to recycling). Building wooden furniture with screws is faster if you're good at it, and building these cannot be too fast just because you need to line everything up very slowly and carefully, and you need time to carefully remove protector from the 3M tape, etc.7. If you were not careful at building time, you've wasted $20, there's no way to re-do. I've wasted none and built around 30 of them, but I slightly misaligned one or two cubes (maybe a millimeter or two) and I can easily see how it can be totally screwed up if you're not careful.8. 1 out of 30 cubes came with a defect in holes - a hole was filled. I used sharp scissors blade to fix it. I think it's still high enough quality, but if you get unlucky with 1 out of 30, sorry :)9. It's critically important to use them upright, and not on sides (I can see how they can break if used on sides) and it's critically important to hold them from the bottom (from under the cube) when moving them around.Overall, it's well worth $20, although I wouldn't buy them if they were more expensive, and I'd buy more of them if they were cheaper.

Confession. I did not read the listing carefully!
Ok, I was expecting wood.I admit it. I was expecting a particle board cube with some sort of twistlock fastener. I was not expecting tape. Nope. Nope nope nope. I was not expecting z-board.At first look I admit I was a bit weirded out by the fact that this cube was (As I said it in my first breath of seeing the product) "FREAKIN CARDBOARD."I boggled at the 3M tape for the joins. The only real wood in this equation are the pins to line the cube up.This cube was for surrounding a monitor for my studio, and holding my board on the top.I figured, it doesn't have to be too too strong, as the board is only about 15 pounds. But it needs to be sturdy, and not shake. My nearly teenager child and I put it together. (He put in the pegs, and helped with the tape covers.)Once the backboard was in (I also confess I punched a hole in the back panel for wires, I cut a complete circle about 3 inches up from the bottom of the board, not breaking the bottom integrity.) and the side were on I found that I could press down on it with nearly my full weight with no bending, or bowing.Once fully assembled it perfectly went into place, holds firmly, with ZERO wobble, and looks decent.Honestly, this piece is what I needed. Tho, surprising. It's inexpensive, sturdy, and looks good for what it is. If you need inexpensive shelving, I'd say it will do the job. I'm not sure it would hold together if you tried hanging them up. But as a cube on a desk, or floor, it should do the trick. Thanks!

Top-haltbar
TOP

Cheaply Built Product
Cheaply built. Although a lifetime warranty it is made of cheap cardboard. There is no wood in this item and I am not sure that it will stand up to the test of time despite the lifetime warranty. Don't waste your money.

Cheap
Cheap and wobbly, but if you add some of your own glue and don’t expect too much sturdiness, it may do the trick.
