Smart and boils fast
This is a good size even for a family. I think 1 litre is right and 1.7l is just too big. Boils very fast

Very happy after 1 year
We bought this kettle as we moved into our new home 1 year ago. I'd already bought and was impressed with the Sage Barista Express. Since buying the kettle too I went on to buy a Sage blender - this company does a very good job of designing and manufacturing great quality, technically advanced products for a fair price.I was almost put off by some reviews which said the kettle didnt work or that it beeped annoyingly (!!). Yes it beeps, subtly, a couple of times when it reaches temperature. That's how you know the water has reached the set point when you've set a target that's lower than boiling point. Our window cleaner loves green tea (made at 80 degrees) and I always make him a cup when he visits. I can walk away from the kettle and he can still drink it right away when served. Similarly if you do make instant coffee you can set it for that. The base is good and it's easy to replace the kettle in any 360 degree position. The kettle is easy to keep clean. No limescale or corrosion inside after 12 months, though we live in West Yorkshire so it's not a major problem here anyway. All said very impressed and satisfied with the (now three) Sage products we've chosen.

A great looking, dumpy kettle with some disappointments.
I rate this as one of the nicest looking (contemporary) and most promising of electric cordless kettles. It looks great straight out of the box. It sits nice and squat on the worktop, and blends in nicely with the other silver/chrome appliances nearby. The size is intentionally small (and neat) and its volume (4 cups max) is perfect for 90%+ of common uses. It boils a full volume relatively quickly (mostly because of the volume of course) and is somewhat quieter (78dB (ambient 42dB)) compared to my other larger kettle (83dB).So what are the disappointments mentioned in the review title? (1) Taste (at least initially). It noticeably taints the boiled water (horrid plasticky taint), and even more so if the water has been boiled once already - that said, the vast majority of kettles fail here too in my experience. After I had boiled 6-8 kettles of fresh water, the taint was at it's least offensive (or maybe I had gotten used to it?) The taint I suspect comes from the seal between the concealed metal element and the glass body. (2) Next disappointment is that... after boiling and pouring, the glass is condensated up / dropletted - it doesn't drain down or clear, and it no longer looks so 'nice'. And (3) some water remains in the lid/upper ledge and also the spout due to its design; And lastly (4) the filter will be all but pointless except the largest of detritous (i.e. limescale). Given that the last three are minor, and the first issue (taste) is lessening, the questions remain 'do I like it?' (yes) and 'will I keep it?' (yes) and 'could I recommend it - above all other kettles I have seen/tried?' (yes) - and boy, have I tried and rejected a lot of kettles! (FYI - best kettle yet was the Wahl James Martin Glass Chrome Kettle (no longer available) as it didn't taint the water, had great looks etc., but failed all too soon in its life :(

Very Attractive Kettle
This is a beautifully designed product. The kettle is well made, and feels reassuringly heavy in the hand, without being cumbersome. In fact, it is beautfully balanced and a joy to hold. The shape is quite 'dumpy' and the capacity, although less than most mainstream kettles, is still easily sufficient for a couple or a small family. The glass is marked with the number of cups on one side, and the capacity (in litres) on the other. It's quite fast to boil, with a 2.4kW rating, helped no doubt by the smaller capacity, which is one litre exactly. The brushed stainless steel and glass combo looks great on the kitchen worktop, and the noise level whilst boiling is not too high. All in all, I am pleased with my purchase, and would certainly recommend this Sage kettle.
