A basic list of foods that you would buy at a grocery store. Carbohydrate content for small amount of each item , so that if you measure your food, you could theoretically calculate the carbohydrate content of your portion. Type font used in the list is very small so that I must concentrate to be able to read the charts. Foods are described either as ‘low carbohydrate’ , eat as much as you want or limited quantity. Focus is only on carbohydrate content so it only comments on carbohydrate content. This is NOT a ‘guide to a healthy diet’. If you want a basic carbohydrate list, this book does have that list.

This is a good book of food lists from authoritative sources, The American Diabetes Association and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. It contains a lot of helpful information for meal planning and for managing diabetes. The book does not contain specific guidelines for determining your daily food exchanges or calories. You are advised to meet with an RDN for that. Note that this book has many identical pages to “Choose Your Foods: Food Lists for Weight Management,” so if you have one book you might not want to get the other.
