Works great as long as there is tension on the latches
When I first received the cooler, I did a test with a couple bags of ice and one ice block. I was very disappointed that it melted faster than expected. By day 2 a third to half of the ice was melted - not what I expected based on all the reviews I read. The latches felt loose when in the closed position and there was not a lot of tension. I tried the paper test where you place a sheet of paper in the gasket area of the cooler with the lid latched shut (trapping the sheet of paper between the lid and the lip of the cooler opening). I was able to pull the sheet out with with some effort from the front part of the cooler near the latches. It was not sealing properly in that area.I loosened the screws on the latch hardware and made minor adjustments to the placement of the latches. There was a little bit of play on both the top hardware piece and bottom hardware piece. I moved the top hardware up a smidge and the bottom hardware down a smidge. I did this to both latches. Once all the screws were tightened, I tried closing the latches; it made a thunk sound when I pushed the latches all the way down to shut the lid - just what I had hoped for. There is now more tension on the latches. I did the paper test and was not able to pull the paper out.We used it on an 11 day road trip in May. We set out with 1/3 of the cooler filled with ice at the bottom and the rest of the space taken up by food. We purchased ice once after 5 days to top it off. At the end of the 11 days there was still half the original ice at the bottom of the cooler. It kept the food cold and no food was spoiled. It worked really well.

Engel coolers are awesome!
Great quality well built cooler. Ideal for camping & fishing. My first cooler arrived damaged from shipping and Engel customer service made everything right.

World Class Cold
I bought this Engel 50 after taking a 3 day rafting trip with a buddy and he had one that kept our food and beverage icy despite pounding heat and constant opening/closing.I’d been toying with other brands like Yeti and Rtic but this one took the case based on price but perhaps more importantly size and shape. This cooler is so much lighter than a similar capacity option from Rtic or other more affordable root molded coolers. I also love the smaller footprint and taller nature of this cooler because it make its easier to fit in the back of my car (and in the raft). I did an ice test when I got this and had visible cubes 6+ days after stocking it and leaving closed in my garage for a week! Great buy!

Does’t hold ice for even 24 hours
We are living on our boat, and needed a cooler that would hold ice for a long time. The ad for this cooler said it would last up to 10 days. We couldn’t even make it to 24hours without needing to buy more ice. I am very disappointed in this product.

Nice cooler
Use this cooler only for clean ice. The Yeti 65 holds food, etc. On a three day camping trip it held the ice just fine. Considering the price, there was a bit more ice melt than I would’ve expected.

Great value, excellent performance!
Great value for a rotomolded cooler. Just returned from a 5 day trip with plenty of ice left over. This was my first nice cooler. After a lot of research, decided on Engel over Canyon, Yeti, Orca and Pelican. Do yourself a favor, if you spend this much on a cooler, research how to pack it properly. Pre-chill, blocks v cubes, ice to contents ratio, etc. Just get on YouTube. The first time I used it, I was disappointed with the ice retention but it totally user error. Really happy with it now that I know how to use it! Accessories are great, and the latches are much better than competitors in my opinion.

... I bought this ENG50 cooler and I couldn't be happier. It is heavy for its size
I did a lot of research before I bought this ENG50 cooler and I couldn't be happier. It is heavy for its size, but I expected that from a well insulated cooler. I do recommend buying the divider and racks, as it makes it very easy to keep the cold separated from the frozen. I also checked with the manufacturer and found that you can use dry ice in it, but they recommend that you wrap the dry ice in paper and crack the drain open about 1/4 turn to keep the carbon dioxide gas from building up...or keep the lid slightly open. Legal disclaimer - I am not a scientist, and I do not work for Engel, so do not take my word for it and end up suffocating because you did not do your own research! However, Youtube people say that carbon dioxide can be dangerous, so don't use dry ice in a confined space. But again, I am not an expert in dry ice handling or usage, or much else. I just know that I love my cooler, and I recommend you avoid buying a cheap one and buy this one, because it makes you "cooler." Get it?! It also makes you smarter for not buying a piece of crap.
