Saddest christmas gift
My 10 year old son loves building and this seemed like a great idea. It took just a few minutes for the frustration to set in and maybe 30 minutes for the tears to start. None of the pieces stay put together. This poor kiddo poured all this time into his creation and the paper floors and walls won't stay put and the girders don't actually stay put together enough to work the circuitry through them. Great idea, total fail in its execution. Pretty junky Christmas gift that I wish I could return.

Flimsy
Awesome idea of a game for kids - we got this for our 7 years old son that's a bit techy. He (and us) were very excited until we started to build the projects. The frames and beams are very flimsy to assemble, they wobble quite a bit that makes assembling any larger project a real challenge and constant source of frustration. The slightest pressure applied to afix one beam can ruin the whole project and have to start over. The decorative parts (walls, furniture, etc) are made of thin cardboard (well, glorified paper really) and virtually impossible to install to the frames. The slightest air movement will take them away. With a parent's help if a project eventually completes, it's better to leave it on the mantel than play with it. I would have liked to spend some quality time with my son teaching him about electrical system and wiring things through the house, but constantly fighting the game sucks all the fun out of it

Tech Kid Heaven
The positives - My godson is an intelligent and tech savvy 7 year old who loves loves Legos and Minecraft, as well as trains and building in general. He opened this gift and we haven't heard from him for several hours! He was so proud of displaying his projects and explaining how he wired the structures to the silent alarms, lights, how the garage door operated, etc. We woke up the next day and that's the first thing he ran to, foregoing his other toys. I would say that this set is a win in my book! The minor issues - I wish that the cardboard that is used for making the walls and roof of the structures was a bit thicker. It definitely stays in place, but I have a feeling that after months of use, it will show the wear. But knowing my godson, he will most likely end up making his own in the near future. As well, I noticed that he had a bit of a hard time having the structure stay connected, as if the pieces were slightly off in thickness. He was able to put everything together, but as he would start maneuvering the wires, the pieces would come apart fairly easily. I guess it's a plus and a minus.I'm giving this 5 stars simply for the fact that it has kept him entertained for longer than most "complex" toys would. There are so many structures that he has already built and continues to build (as I hear from his parents). This is very reminiscent of minecraft, so definitely a favorite with him.

Fun idea. Not well made. Overpriced for the quality.
We previously purchased the Smart Circuits set from this maker and we're very excited to get this set to play with and engineer. The other set is sturdy and well made. We nearly did every single project that it came with the day it arrived. That set was so fun! We were really looking forward to playing with this set as well. BUT within an hour, several pieces had already broken or cracked. And we were building carefully! The wall and floor pieces and all the fun looking accessories (other than the plastic grids, supports and wiring) are just printed on thin cardstock that falls over if you barely brush against it. It doesn't stay where you place it and tears very easily.I had hoped these sets would be able to be used with each other since they're both built on a square grid base from the same company. The wiring can connect. However, surprisingly the square grids are not only different sizes (and quality), but the tab parts that connect grid to grid are also different sizes. If they had at least made the snap-tab sides uniform, one could connect the two sets for even more fun.If we decide to keep the kit (still debating) I will have to reconstruct the walls, floors and such using sturdier and slightly thicker materials that won't slide out if you barely brush against it. There is definitely room for improvement with this kit. It's not remotely as well made as the Smart Circuits set. I'm rather disappointed, but my son does like the bright graphics and the engineering/electronic angle of the set. Luckily for him, I've got a background in design and can craft a fix for this. That said, for this price, I shouldn't have to fix anything after playing with it half a day.
