Great Film to watch when nothing on TV

The first 2 movies were excellent and I expected a lot from this one this one and although it is a little below par it is in no way a lousy movie. Many Marvel readers would have had their own preconceptions about this one. The Venom character especially is a firm favourite and, like the Surfer in the recent FF movie, it can backfire in some people's eyes if it is not done right. The Sandman is one of Marvel's longest running villains, and over the years he has shown different sides to his nature so the idea of his redemption is nothing new. I do feel the twist with his involvement in Uncle Ben's death was an unnecessary diversion and his updated origin I have to agree with some reviewers is just plain daft. It was nice to see him appear in the classic 1960's striped shirt outfit though and Thomas Haden Church is outstanding. Harry Osborn returns as a new homicidal Green Goblin who also undergoes redemption by the end of the film, James Franco also stands out in this role. Having both Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy appear was a good idea, but it lacks the impact of their comic book characters. Photographer Eddie Brock's hatred of Peter Parker after his dismissal from the Daily Bugle adds an extra twist and when he is taken over by the alien symbiote you know it will end in fireworks. There are so many good background characters here, J.K.Simmons is superb and is the embodiment of JJJ at his usual ranting self, other Bugle regulars Betty Brant and "Robbie" Robertson and Willem Dafoe is back in a Norman Osborn flashback cameo. The three villain idea has been derided as cramming too much in and losing impact. There is a grain of truth there but the action scenes are very well handled and the way the Sandman's CGI transformation is portrayed is first rate. The second disc is absolutely crammed with extra documentaries and is well worth watching. If I had one major grumble it is that I had hoped the Lizard would appear in this movie with Dr. Connors being in place since the first movie, surely a fourth movie is not too much to ask for. The beauty of the Spider-Man franchise is the vast array of villains and supporting characters from over 40 years to choose from, please don't stop now.

If I remember correctly it was around August last year when I managed to see the awesome trailer for the third spiderman movie. Needless to say I couldnt wait to see it hit the big screen. To be honest, I have seen the film at least five times already, its that good!! So what made this third spiderman film so good? The Villians what else!!Well it picks up from the second film nicely (Harry Osborne wanting revenge and becoming the New Goblin deserves; an Oscar for his acting alone) with two extra villians The Sandman (Thomas Haden) who I think was fantastic in every way and of course Spiderman's ultimate nemesis Venom (Topher Grace), who does his best but doesnt impress much as Venom. And of course theres the familiar love triangle between parker, osborne and Mary Jane as usual, but this time it goes one step further with Peter transforming to the dark side hence the fantastic black spiderman suit!! And yet theres more, sub plots involving Peter's Uncle Ben from the first movie and a new female cast which gets up close and personal with spidey!! I could on and on with this film, but every movie has its flaws and unfortunatly spiderman 3 is not perfect in any way either. Firstly most spiderman fans will not appreciate the long running time, and then theres the unfinished story about the black goo, how it got there and what it's true purpose is, Venom (despite looking just like its cartoon counterpart without the bulkiness) only gets about twenty minutes of screen time and not surprisingly its the last twenty minutes of the film. Also theres not much time to explore the darker spiderman character, because it all happens too quick and ends too soon. Still the film deserves its five stars because it made me smile, laugh and almost (I did say almost) break down in tears by the end and there arn't many superhero films out there that can do that. I can understand though why some fans wont like it, but as I mentioned earlier if you are a diehard spiderman fan, you wouldnt notice the running time as the film hardly pauses for breath. It is a shame though about Venom, I would have preferred it if they had just the Sandman and the New goblin for this third movie and then the fourth film would be only based on Venom and of course the dark spiderman side story. Oh well never mind, I better stop waffling; Five stars deservedly!!!

Peter Parker a retrouvé un équilibre de vie et il veut se marier avec Mary Jane. Pendant une nuit au parc, alors que Peter et Mary Jane sont ensemble, une petite météorite tombe tout près du lieu où ils se trouvent et éclate, laissant échapper une matière visqueuse, le symbiote, qui s'attache à la mobylette de Peter. Pendant ce temps, Flint Marko s'échappe de la prison où il était détenu pour cambriolage afin d'aller revoir sa fillette qui lui manque terriblement, mais dont il n'a pas le droit de s'approcher à cause de l'injonction d'éloignement obtenue contre lui par son ex-femme ; pendant sa fuite, il tombe dans un accélérateur de particules, qui fond son corps avec le sable et il devient l'Homme-sable. Quant au meilleur ami de Peter, Harry Osborn, il veut venger la mort de son père, et, croyant que Spider-Man est la cause de cette mort, il l'attaque. La bataille laisse Harry avec un choc à la tête qui le rend amnésique à court terme, lui faisant oublier temporairement sa vengeance. Plus tard, durant un festival honorant Spider-Man parce qu'il a sauvé la vie de Gwen Stacy, fille d'un policier et remettant la clé de la ville de New York au héros, cette dernière l'embrasse, ce qui crée un différend entre Peter et Mary Jane, parce qu’elle croit qu’il veut s’éloigner d’elle. L’Homme-sable essaye ensuite de voler un véhicule blindé, mais Spider-Man l’arrête. Le capitaine Stacy informe plus tard Peter et sa tante May que Marko est la personne qui a tué Ben Parker, son oncle. Peter attend Marko pour se battre contre lui, voulant venger la mort de son oncle. Le symbiote se colle sur son costume tandis qu'il est endormi et Peter découvre que ce n’est pas seulement son costume qui a changé, mais également ses pouvoirs, qui ont augmenté. Cependant, ce costume noir le rend plus violent, plus égoïste et plus enragé : il fait remonter à la surface son côté sombre. Le changement de personnalité de Peter l'éloigne de Mary-Jane, qui ne réussit pas à lancer sa carrière d'actrice ; elle se console avec Harry, lequel est guéri de son amnésie (il voit une apparition de son père mort) et pousse Mary Jane à se séparer de Peter. Harry le rencontre dans un restaurant et prétend être le préféré. Plus tard, Peter le trouve chez lui, et avec l'aide de son costume noir, l'affronte dans un combat brutal, qui laisse le visage de Harry défiguré. Influencé par le costume, Peter humilie aussi Eddie Brock, un photographe qui a vendu au Daily Bugle de fausses images montrant que Spider-Man est un criminel afin de prendre la place de Peter comme pigiste. Eddie Brock est licencié à cause de Parker et jure de se venger. Pour rendre Mary Jane jalouse, Peter emmène Gwen au Jazz, le night club où elle travaille comme chanteuse et serveuse. Peter se bat ensuite avec les videurs de la boîte et gifle Mary Jane, la projetant au sol. C'est à ce moment que Peter se rend compte que le costume l’a changé. Il sort en courant de la boîte de nuit et va à la cathédrale Saint-Patrick pour se débarrasser du symbiote. Au début, il ne peut retirer le costume, mais sans le vouloir, il frappe la grande cloche et la fait sonner, et ses vibrations affaiblissent le symbiote, permettant à Peter de se débarrasser de lui. Eddie Brock se trouve également sur place, priant pour la mort de Peter, quand le symbiote lui tombe dessus et s'accroche à lui. Ce dernier a acquis les pouvoirs de Spider-man durant le temps qu'il a passé à l'intérieur de Peter et les transmet à Eddie, créant un double maléfique de Spider-Man : Venom. Eddie, s'étant rendu compte que Peter et Spider-man sont la même personne, trouve l’Homme-sable et lui propose de s'associer avec lui pour détruire Spider-Man. Ils utilisent Mary-Jane comme appât pour forcer Spider-Man à les affronter. Peter va demander son aide à Harry, mais celui-ci refuse. Cependant, Harry apprend la vérité au sujet de la mort de son père grâce à son majordome Bernard (il a été tué par son propre planeur et pas par Spider-man), et arrive à temps pour sauver Peter, s'associant avec lui contre Venom et l’Homme-sable. Pendant que le combat progresse, Brock essaye d'empaler Peter, mais Harry s'interpose et est fatalement blessé. Peter se rappelle alors comment les vibrations de la cloche de l’église avaient affaibli le symbiote. Contre l'avis d'Eddie, qui voulait délibérément rester sous l'influence de Venom, il le libère en faisant résonner plusieurs tuyaux ensemble. Peter jette une bombe-citrouille au symbiote, qui meurt avec Eddie. Après la bataille, Marko dit à Peter qu'il n'avait eu aucune intention de tuer Ben Parker, et que c'était un accident survenu lors d'un essai désespéré de sauver la vie de sa fille. Peter pardonne à Marko, qui se désagrège et flotte au loin. Peter et Harry se pardonnent mutuellement, avant qu'Harry ne meurt. Après l'enterrement d'Harry, Peter et Mary Jane se retrouvent et commencent à réparer leur relation.

ACHTUNG: Meine Rezenseion enthält Spoiler. Somit sollten Leute die den Film noch nicht gesehen haben, diese lieber meiden. Spider-Man 3 war in den Kinos unglaublich erfolgreich. Und das mit Recht: perfekt fortgeführte Story (wenn auch mit ein paar kleinen Mankos - aber dazu komme ich noch), atemberaubenden Special Effects, super Action und tiefen Charakteren. Story: Die Story ist sehr komplex und hat auch mehrere Stadien. Zuerst wird Peter Parker als gefeiert, dann zerstört der Erfolg fast seine Beziehung zu Mary Jane. Etwas später erfährt er von dem wahren Mörder seines Onkels und als er dann darauf den schwarzen Anzug besitzt geht fast alles den Bach runter. Als letztes stellt er sich dann selbst dem Symbionten (verkörpert durch Venom). Zwischendurch verliert sein Freund Harry das Bewusstsein was dazu führt, dass er bis zu einem bestimmten Punkt im Film nicht von dem Rachegedanken besessen ist, was Peter sichtlich gut tut. Als Peter den Anzug besitzt und sich dazu entschliesst ihn auch tagsüber zu tragen verliert er für kurze Zeit Mary Jane und versucht sich mit der Freundin von Eddie Brock (Venom) zu beglücken. Zusätzlich sorgt Peter dafür, dass Eddie gefeuert wird und schafft somit seinen dritten Gegner - Venom. An sich ist die Story sehr komplex und Sam Raimi schafft es alle Charaktere perfekt einzuführen. Lediglich bei Harry, Peter und Mary Jane hat er sich nicht so viel zeit genommen. Diese kennt man auch schon aus den ersten beiden Filmen. Somit sehe ich auch keinen Grund dazu, diese noch einmal einzuführen und somit wertvolle Minuten zu verlieren. Der Charakter von Eddie Brock wird auch sehr schnell und sehr gut erklärt. Da er auch nur eine Nebenrolle spielt ist es auch nicht nötig zu wissen was er die letzten 2 Jahre getrieben hat. Jedoch wäre es vielleicht besser gewesen, ihn in Spider-Man einzuführen. Somit hätte Raimi Eddie etwas komplexer stricken können und mehr Zeit für Venom verwenden. Eddie's Freundin (habe leider den Namen vergessen) hat auch nur 2 Auftritte und somit hat Raimi auch nicht viel Zeit benötigt sie vorzustellen. Das Problem liegt aber bei Sandman. Man kennt ihn als Familienvater der lediglich versucht seiner Tochter zu helfen, welche an einer Krankheit leidet. Durch einen unglücklichen Unfall wird er dann zum Sandman. Alles gut erklärt und nett gezeigt. Doch die Tatsache, dass man am Anfang des Films einfach sagt, dass er doch der richtige Mörder von Uncle Ben ist, wirkt zu aufgesetzt und scheint lediglich dazu zu dienen Peter's weitere Charakter Stadien zu unterstreichen oder zu begründen. Das nächste Problem liegt daran, dass die Verbündung von Venom und Sandman zu schnell geht und lediglich durch 2 Sätze von Eddie eingeleitet wird. Das könnte man mit der Verwandlung vom netten zum bösen Skywalker in Star Wars 3 vergleichen. Ging mir auch ein wenig zu schnell. Schon allein die Tatsache, dass Sandman Venom das erste Mal sieht und ihm dann einfach den Rücken kehren will ist irgendwie unlogisch. Man sollte man in der Szene als sie sich das erste Mal treffen darauf achten. Außerdem sei angemerkt, dass Venom nur einen relativ kurzen Auftritt in Spider-Man 3 hat. Ich als Fan dieses Bösewichtes fand es ein wenig schade aber was will man machen. Vielleicht kommt ja bald eine Extended Version vom Film mit 10 Minuten mehr Venom :). Denkbar wäre es. Kommen wir nun zu Mary Jane die, wie es scheint, von einem Mann zum anderen springt. Harry, Peter, Sohn vom Daily Bugle Chef, Peter, Harry, Peter. Insgesamt lässt Sie das wie eine kleine Schl*mpe aussehen und dadurch könnte man ein wenig an Peters Intelligenz zweifeln. Aber das scheint wohl der Charakter zu sein und somit hat man das "bitchige" von Mary Jane anscheinend beibehalten. Special Effects: Insgesamt kann man nicht meckern. Zwar sieht man in wirklich jeder Szene wann CGI angewandt wurde und wann nicht. Trotzdem sehen alle Effekte super aus und brauchen sich hinter der Matrix Trilogie oder der Herr der Ringe Trilogie nicht zu verstecken. Aber: Mit Venom hätte man viel mehr machen können. Ich finde, dass Raimi sich mehr an der Comic-Figur hätte orientieren sollen. Wo ist die lange Zunge? Wo ist die andere Stimme? Wo sind die Muskeln? Und wo ist Bosheit? Alles ein wenig zu kurz gekommen. Auch sieht Venom manchmal sehr zu stark nach einer Art Puppe aus. Zwar nur ca. 2 Mal im Film aber 2 Mal sind 2 Mal zuviel. Wenn man Sandman so spektakulär darstellen kann, dann kann man es bei Venom auch. Wobei ich sagen muss, dass die Verwandlungsszene eine der besten Szenen im Film ist. Sonstiges: Spider-Man 3 bietet viel mehr Action als in den beiden ersten Filmen zusammen. Das ist die einfache Folge des Fortsetzungskodex: mehr, mehr, mehr. Glück gehabt, dass das nicht in die Hose gegangen ist. Ein gutes Negativbeispiel wäre hier Underworld: Evolution. Auch ist der Film mit viel mehr Witz gespickt als die ersten beiden Teile. Es gibt einfach von allem mehr und das ist auch gut eingesetzt worden. Auch die Dialoge haben ihre Qualität von den ersten beiden Teilen beibehalten. Fazit: Ich kann Spider-Man 3 wirklich jedem ans Herz legen. Zuvor sollte man jedoch die ersten beiden Teile gucken um zu wissen warum und wie sich die Charaktere so entwickelt haben wie sie im dritten Teil zu sehen sind. Zwar wird im Vorspann des Films viel davon gezeigt aber es versauft nur die ersten beide Teile sofern man sie noch nicht gesehen hat. Fans kommen um Spider-Man 3 sowieso nicht vorbei und jeder sollte sich die DVD vorbestellen. 5 Sterne für den besten dritten Teil einer Trilogie neben der Rückkehr des Königs von Herr der Ringe.

I've heard a lot of criticism about Spider-Man 3. Most of that criticism centres on there being "too much going on" or too many villains in the movie. I have to disagree, as a former comic book reader/small-time collector this movie brought back so many memories. It doesn't follow the comic book story very much, but it's not a comic book, it's a film. And if another medium can be used to tell a good story, then why not use it and change it if need be? I thought the complexity of having three villains throughout the movie really added something interesting to the story. The story was never dull, hard to keep track of at times, but never dull. I often found myself wondering what would happen next and trying to guess what the next plot twist would be. While some comic purists may find a couple of scenes absurd, I found those scenes add a lot of comic relief that might broaden the audience of the film a little. The story appeals to a mass audience, which is what big budget films are supposed to do and I think it's successful in that regard. It's also successful in making comic book characters seem "cool" or hip in the sense that Spider-Man isn't just for us comic book geeks or for the people who are old enough to actually remember some of the earlier television series, like the late 1960's version. If changing the stories a little and adding some Hollywood hype can keep Spider-Man in popular culture, then I'm all for it. This movie tells a good story, has effective comic book characters (heroes, villains, supporting characters) and has some comedy as well. It's a great film.

Please note that I've never read any Spider-Man comics and am simply judging this and any other Spider-Man film on their merits as films in a superhero film series. Thank you for your understanding. When this film first came out, I quickly got the impression that people either loved it or hated it...no real middle ground. I thought it was very good, though I stand firm by my stance that Spider-Man 2 is still my favorite in this series. I do think that Venom, played by Topher Grace, came in kind of late in the game while the Sandman, played by Thomas Haden Church, was absolutely great, becoming my second favorite villain in the series. Tying him into the murder of Uncle Ben also contributed to this, as it made me wonder exactly how our favorite web-slinging hero would handle this. It was nice to see Peter becoming comfortable in his duel role, showing that you don't need a billion dollars or an alien origin to accomplish this. It was also nice to see him let his fame as Spider-Man get to his head, reminding us all how seseptible we can be to such cockiness when life's just going our way. It was really nice to see Mary Jane actually doing something more than needing to be saved all the time, even if her blandness was only slightly lessened. Harry Osborn's continuing story ark only got better, though it suffered from being rushed at times, a problem that plagued this entire movie. There had been talk during production about spliting this movie into two flicks and, in my opinion, the church scene would have been the perfect end to part one. I do wonder about the symbiote...it seemed to come a bit out of the blue. I'm sure it was more established in the comics, but here, there was barely even ever a mention of outer space in this series and this thing from somewhere among the stars just suddenly shows up? It seemed to jump the shark just a bit. But for all my wondering and complaining, this was still a film I greatly enjoyed and I'd reccomend it to anyone. Enjoy.
