Well it’s a splitting mail… it’s gonna do just that..
I love the handle, it has a great ergonomic shape and comfortable grip. However it is a mild/soft steel. I split maybe 5 pieces of wood and it was filled and had gashes in the “blade”.. I had a plastic rasp file, I filed it back to a nice sharp edge and then heat treated the cutting edge on it and the matching axe- have not had an issue since. I have even had some hard stuff that I had to use my 8lb sledge and hit the back side to drive it threw the log- edge and head boath are good to go now. To heat treat the splitting edge- get the cutting edge hot with a torch and then when it’s hot, dip the head in a bucket of cold - heavy weight oil. It will cool it slowly and that’s how it hardens.. I use 80w90 gear oil for “quenching” when I want to harden stuff- but you could use engine oil too.. then if you use a thinner oil, put the whole head in a buck t and cover the whole head with sand and allow it to cool completely- will be good to go! Just make sure that you have it sharp before you heat treat the mail- or you will struggle to sharpen it. - J.S.- OHIO 10 /22

Didn't even last 1 year.
This hatchet didn't even last one year. The head split apart from the handle. I did get a replacement so we will see how long this one lasts.

Works for me
Splits wood well. Only used a few times. More use will determine durability.

Does what it needs to do
So I bought this to split wood with a hammer and the width of the head works well to split dry wood I've had a couple pieces of wood that I want to say is Osage orange or hedge and it did not do real well on that hardwood only because I was afraid the striking of the splitter mall would explode the metal but regular wood it wasn't a problem

Broke easily
The axe worked well for about 5 sessions of splitting wood before the head separated from the handle. It has/had a warranty but i cannot get ahold of the manufacturer. Disappointed to say the least.

Great splitting hatchet
Congrats, you've filtered thru the search options and found this incredible deal. Buy it!No-frills splitting hatchet, great for smaller log sections and making kindling. Built durable and balanced well. Great especially if you have teens or others not so strong that help with firewood.

Which one?
Don’t confused the green handled hatchet reviews with the wood handled one. The green handled hatches is perfectly designed for splitting kindling. The handle length is good and the head of the axe tapers outward designed to split like a large splitting mall. Head is well attached which seems different than the reviews for the wood handled axe.

For the price, the axe is good value.
This axe appears to be well made but I've not used it extensively yet. It is not meant as an alternative for a professional wood splitting axe. I brought it for camping and hunting and it appears to be sufficient for this. I have an expensive hand made Swedish Grundfors Bruk (sp?) for my personal use. For general abuse around the camp it will probably be as good for this as an 80$ plus home Depot brand. The wimpy edge cover works sort-of but probably won't last long. The sharpening stone, that I was surprised to see in the box, was broken but that's ok cause now I have 2 usable stones. At this point, for the price, no regrets. We will see ...

Be ready for a day project
Spent the better part of a day reshaping and trying to center the cutting edge of the axe with the handle. It was way off. Was that done I put a razor edge on it and it now works extremely well. This maul now splits oak and other hardwoods with hit.Can be a great addition to your tools if you're up for the project of completely reshaping the cutting edge. To be honest I enjoyed fixing it up and I think just the axe head unsharped would be worth the price
