The Book of Five Rings: The Classic Text of Samurai Sword Strategy Hardcover – March 4, 2014

I have several additions of this book. As a martial arts practitioner and instructor I refer to this book often. I have also given as a gift to students. This particular edition is a beautiful book. It is aesthetically pleasing, really well put together. I highly recommend it both for its content and for its aesthetic appeal.

I have owned several editions of this book over the years but this one gives you the version of the writings of Miyamoto Musashi that is the truest to the original manuscript together with amazing illustrations of artifacts and paintings from Feudal Japan that really complement what you are reading and help you get immerse in the spirit of the book. Great to display on your coffee table.

I heard about this from a well known podcast and I was excited to check it out. I found the words of Miyamoto Musashi to be enlightening and I think most people with be able to find some meaning from this book. The thing that sets this version apart from any other is the artwork inside. Every page has Japanese woodblock prints on it. the detail is stunning and it adds a whole new layer to the inspiration someone may find from this book.

This is a nicely formatted book with stunningly beautiful artwork throughout. I am very pleased with this book. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in japanese history, writing, or art. It is placed very conspicuously on my coffee table for others to see and enjoy!

Beautiful showcase for this classic text. Great photographs, illustrations, much more than a text, a design to honor the text.

After Rogan recommended this the paperback version sold out so we opted for this version. Beautiful gold indentation lettering and illustration on the front cover, not sure what material the Hardback is wrapped in but very soft. The prefix describes in detail the Japan Musashi inhabited during his lifetime, 4 centuries of internal strife and warring factions.The illustrations of screens and paintings really add something to the text truly allowing you to "feel" transported to the era. Bought as a companion piece for Ghost Of Tsushima. Its been a while since I have read philosophy type books and this could be seen as a "self help" book but I love most things relating to Japanese culture and if the words in this ancient text can distract me even momentarily from the modern day strife of a global pandemic, recession, rioting, then it will have achieved its purpose.Beautiful book and definitely worth the extra few penny's, highly recommended.

Very pleased with the book which arrived today. Beautiful illustrations throughout and a quality hardback, small ding at the side of the hardback cover, but small enough that I don't care when taking into account everything else about the book.
