Strong secondary characters hold one's attention
The main character, Schaal, is one-dimensional (she wants to avenge her father's death at the hands of a Beast Hunter), but otherwise, the characters in the story are deep and varied. I don't know how long the story can go before it loses steam, but so far, it's fascinating how each and every soldier had a legitimate reason to become Incarnate Beast, and must now die so that peace can finally become reality. The "Wild West" setting reminds me a bit of the Deadlands RPG. This story could probably be set in that game with minimal effort. The setting lends an air of lawlessness to the story, making the portrayed violence seem inevitable. The whole thing is depressing in a way: eventually, the Beast Hunter must die too. I suspect that's one reason Hank, the Captain, has Schaal tagging along. It'll be her job to kill him, once he's the last of the Beasts. Can the reader keep reading through the last volume? So far, there are seven, so the longer this story goes, the harder it'll be to finish it, for both MAYBE and the readers.

Bored
I was really bored throughout this volume. Every action in this manga felt like nothing. Do not recommend.

The story and the characters seem okay to me. There wasn't really anything too impressive about this manga but given that it's only been the first volume, I can't expect much for character development and story depth. Everything seemed to happen quite fast and any conflict gets resolved too quickly and conveniently. I will still give a couple more volumes a try though.

Surprisingly better that I expected. It really draws heavily of war veterans coming h.ome from the war and trying to adjust to a society that treats them like secondhand citizens

No expectations
I had no expectations about the story or characters and I liked the paths they took with both. The world makes sense. The characters are likable. The story looks to be going places. I am looking forward to reading more.

Great artwork and an interesting start
The first volume sets up the ongoing conflict in an interesting way while introducing the two main characters. It was an enjoyable read, but the first volume doesn't do much to develop the characters and some of their actions (particularly Nancy's, who starts off trying to murder someone and then immediately joins him on his journey while seeming totally cool with him) can come off as only happening to move the plot along, rather than staying true to their character. However, this is only the first volume and I'm still interested to see how the characters and their relationships develop in the coming chapters.I will say that the artwork is stunning and the character designs look great, but the real standout is the Beast designs. They look immense and otherworldly, and are drawn in great detail.
