Love these shelves
Love these shelves! Everyone who comes over comments on how much they like the look, they can hardly figure out how it works! They are super easy to install by way of the two bolt holes in the bracket provided. I used: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051IBDKW?redirect=true&ref_=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_14 (TOGGLER SNAPTOGGLE BB Toggle Anchor with Bolts) with them as another reviewer suggested and they worked perfectly. I looked at a lot of reviews to figure out the best hanging/invisible shelf and I am glad I found this, my only concern was how fragile they were going to be while taking the books on and off the shelf. Thankfully the shelf holds up well to movement, the bottom book stays where it is supposed to when removing books. You have to be conscious of the fact that the books under the one you're taking can't stray to fall from the wall obviously, that will cause the books to tumble but it's never happened to me. Another concern is how many books it can hold, i mean a shelf that holds 3 books is pretty worthless to me. These shelves can hold 6, 7 or 8 normal hard covered books, anymore and it gets dicey. That's more than enough though since I bought 6 of them and staggered them about the place. It's a nice sturdy little shelf that will bring you compliments all day due to its floating invisibly on your wall. You can't see it at all once the books are on it.. I am ordering more and will look at the other kinds of shelves from Umbra. I think they have a double shelf as well. Stop thinking, buy this shelf and be done with it, you'll be happy you did!

High Quality, Doesn't Work for Big Textbooks
I ordered the double shelf unit in Nickel. 1st impression: It's a solid, quality shelf. Due to the hidden nature of the it, appearance doesn't really matter in this situation but the shelf looks really nice, even before it's concealed by objects. (So if you're intending to use this in a way that happens to shows the shelf, I would say go for it.) The mounting hardware worked great for securing the 3 areas of attachment with the screws. To mount the shelf, I began by using a level to mark out the holes. With a 1/16 drill bit, I drilled in 3 pilot holes. I managed to hit one stud (so I used a screw by itself for it) and then drilled larger pilot holes with a 3/8 bit to insert the enclosed anchors and remaining screws into the drywall. The plastic anchors didn't bend or break when I tapped them into the wall with a mallet. I was hoping to use the shelf for my kid's high school textbooks. While it did physically manage to hold all 6 of them, the books were just too massive. They drooped from the shelf; yet, the shelf remained secure and undamaged. I ended up placing some novel sized books on the shelf instead. I'm curious as to if the single large shelf unit would work for massive textbooks?

Amazing Shelves
I cannot believe how awesome these bookshelves look in my room. With my classic leather bound books stacked neatly on top, these apparently floating books give the room a sense of charm and intrigue. I am so glad I got these shelves. They are easy to install and each can safely hold three of my large leather bound books. They do not wobble or shake. They are very stout and sturdy, and I do not have any worries with the weight they bear. I am confident they will securely hold to the wall and keep my books (and sheetrock) unharmed. The metal is durable and longlasting. So many of my friends and family have complimented these statement pieces and have gotten some of their own book collections.

Very cool
So I ordered this after wanting the one thinkgeek had to offer, but this was a bit cheaper. I had hoped to get it and figure out what this clip was that held the cover of the bottom book up and now see it plainly in the picture. If you missed it, or it's not on here any where or something, well it's 2 little hooks that extend below the shelf. They are pretty tiny but only once did I have a moment's worth of issues having it hold on to the cover of a book. I will say, more careful then I was mounting it. The screws fit in the back plate pretty specifically. One of my pilot holes was a tiny bit off and it caused the shelf to hang a little crooked. I sighed, and then decided just to leave it. My fault, but just a heads up to measure twice and all that jazz. I will be buying more soon, it's pretty awesome. The other option I was thinking about was to use some sort of small clip (or a staple, sideways) just to hold the cover of the book to it's own pages and use an L bracket or two, but I would rather spend at most twice as much for this shelf. It's worth it.

Not perfect, but overall a nice product
This is a really great idea for decorating and look great. I bought a couple and may buy more. Likes * It can really dress up a drab wall. Much more eye catching that just a bookshelf or photo. * It's easy to install. Just need 3 screws. Dislikes * You have to be choosey with the type of books used. The ones I planned to use were too deep and too heavy. The whole thing sagged. The pictures on the Umbra site show some with a whole stack of books. I wasn't able to get more than a couple of hardcover books on it, without the sagging occurring. Wish they had used slightly thicker gauge metal. For the price charged, they could afford it. * The single version has 2 mounting holes one above another, so it offers more support. In this double version, it has 3 holes, just slightly above the shelf, in a horizontal row. This might limit the weight bearing capacity. * The bottom support book only provides support if other books provide weight on the wall side. It also assumes the very small support "hooks" stay engaged on the book cover. If a guest decides to pull a book down to look at it, it is very likely the whole stack will come tumbling down. This should be considered a decorative solution, not a way to store books you will frequently use. Be ready to yell "don't touch those" if you seem someone reaching for them. I would not put anything breakable below these. Despite some gripes I really like these and they look great on the wall. I think there are some things they could do to improve them, but overall I'm satisfied. I'm recommending them.

Love it!
I was a little unsure about purchasing the shelves, but I went ahead and ordered two... and now I'm back ordering another! They're very simple to hang and use, seem to hold quite a bit (especially if you use paperbacks), and look great. I would definitely recommend this size, even though unfortunately the larger one tends to cost less, at least here on amazon. I debated over which size to get, and I'm glad I chose the small shelf because the large would have been way too big. The two hardbacks that I used for bases on my shelves are pretty average size (DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons, if that helps anyone...) and they work perfectly, so unless you're using a huge textbook or cookbook or something of that nature, go with the small! Also, I tried it out as a DVD shelf as well, just to see if it would work, and it does! I used a season of a show that had one of those covers that slips over the actual case as the base, and you secure it just like a book, then stack dvds on top! Overall, it's an awesome design and extremely functional, especially if you have limited storage space. Anything that can turn clutter into decoration gets an A in my book!

Great quality, did job
I bought these shelves to hold up the mini monitors that I use for front speakers (LCR)for my "home theatre" in my living room. I have a drop-down screen that covers a large Kandinski print, but I needed a way to place the speakers. In the past they have been on stands, but that isn't viable in the living room of a new apartment. So, now, instead of a credenza sitting below the print with stand-mounted speakers to its left, on it, and to its right, is the back of a large sectional. The umbra shelves allowed me to place the monitors above the back of the sectional, conveniently keeping the tweeters at ear level, under the print, and just below the bottom of the screen when it is dropped to watch anything involving the projector. They each sit on book and between the speaker and the book and the book and the shelf plate is a small sheet of open-cell polyurethane foam to provide vibration isolation so that he speakers can't excite the wall and turn it into a source that colors the sound. I am happy to have discovered them by doing a search on "floating shelving" on Amazon. I considered other floating shelving systems as well, but these were perfect for the job..

Love These!
I bought a few of these in order to organize the multitudes of books I have lying around the house. I absolutely love them. In particular, I used them to organize the large quantity of children's books that I have in my house. There were many books that I wanted within reach of my two toddler sons (board books, etc), however, there were many books that I wanted left out of reach to avoid total toddler destruction. My husband mounted these easily - he mounted eight of them in the period of less than an hour. We used them to organize all of the books. The large one easily held 20 books - keep in mind these books probably average about 20 pages each. They look awesome scattered around the room because it does, indeed, look like the books are floating and gives the appearance of a mini-library. Every time I have a new visitor they often ask how the books are mounted on the wall like that. I haven't met one person who is not a fan. Having a few left over, I used them on a wall above the piano in my house. I mounted a few decorative books on them topped with a candle of some sort. Needless to say, they also look fantastic. I will definitely be purchasing more of these as my home library grows. I recommend them to anyone who is looking for a unique, decorative way to store and display books.

idéal pour cacher les petites impefections du mur
Solides, pratique, le bouquin tient... et cache les petites imperfections du mur habilement planquées par la couverture! Faciles à monter, j'en aurais fixé plus si le mur le permettait!

Quite sturdy
I give it 5 because the product deserves it. Can hold some weight and the four ridges you see on the pics are some pro engineering shenanigans. Beware of the depth however, I didn't pay attention. The whopping 17cm is what disqualifies almost all my hardcovers as the base book. When I found 3 that fit, it looks silly with small lighter books like SF Masterworks, which you can place in big numbers. These shelves are so precious that I didn't want to return, I cut 4 cm from the shelf part with metal hand saw for the smaller books, voila.
