Preliminary Test
I just received the product and gave it a preliminary test. I had a job doing similar testing with over 30 years of experience. Before making the purchase I read all of the reviews for this product and also for the identical less expensive product; the difference that for $4.00 more I got an extra plate and 4 1/4-3/8 bushings. While I was concerned with mating plates and clamps which appeared to be an issue with many here are my results. In addition to the 2 plates that were included with the Pergear the Mefoto and Induro plates (Mefoto 37mmx60mm included with the Mefoto Globetrotter Tripod) is fully compatible with the Pergear clamp and is also fully compatible with the Desmond DAC-X1 clamp. I prefer the Induro plate because it has a D ring (do not need a coin or hex wrench) and a nicer finish but each person has a preference. My Benro plate (included with my Benro Slim Tripod) is fully compatible the Pergear clamp but not the Desmond. If anyone has any difficulty with plates not fitting you can use a hex wrench and change the clamp to your choice. This was a preliminary test. I am not making any claims for durability. I will update this review after using this head for a while. I am using it with my (also new) Bestshoot Mini Tripod which can be set (legs do not extend; just change the leg angle) to 4", 8", 12" from the desk. This is also new and came with 3 extra feet. I will be testing the combo for a few weeks and then will write a review about the set. I just want to make sure that the set is durable. One also has to be careful that one does not strip the screw or over tighten anything.Sorry this was so long but I just want to set the record straight.

Very nice
This ball head is a real joy to use . The materials and workmanship are very good. It functions smoothly and supports a heavy camera if needed. The ball head comes with two mounting plates and a bag of mounting adapters to fit any tripod.I have a head that cost a lot made by a major manufacturer and this ball head is just as nice in apperance and operation. A really good value. Sorry I did not know about this head before , I'm very satisfied.

I like it
This is a good and durable tripod ball head, feels heavy duty, however It is a bit hard and every time you center it and try to lock the position with the side screw it moves a bit so you have to hold it with your other hand while locking the screw.

So well-made!
That you can get this much quality for the money. I own five of these that I use for a multi-camera shoots and they are so versatile and well-made they can handle beefy cameras all day long.

too much sag, too much tightening
To me, a 5 star ball head is one that is easy to tighten and loosen, and one that doesn't sag. This head does not perform well on both accounts.I literally just returned from a dawn to dusk photo trip, and I am not thrilled with how these heads performed. When using a short but heavy f/2.8 lens (17-50mm), performance was adequate. It was a little frustrating that I felt I had to loosen and tighten both knobs to adjust, but once locked in, the head held stable enough for long exposures.Things were drastically different when I mounted a lightweight 70-300mm lens. Previously, I had mounted a very heavy 80-200mm f/2.8 lens, and noticed significant sag. I don't use that lens very often, especially not on a tripod, so I figured I would be fine with the 70-300. It was not, and I was disappointed. Each time I had my composition, and I tightened down the knobs, it would sag. I head to aim above my desired composition, tighten down, then let it sag to my desired competition. Even then there was no guarantee. I had to tighten both knobs down as much as possible. The combination makes for a terrible experience.I bought two of these because I wanted one for a tripod, and the other for a monopod. I have an older non-arca ball head which I can no longer purchase (to have the same mount on both tripod and monopod). I decided to get out all three and compare. The older ball head sags, but has a single very large knob that is very soft to tighten down, yet still locks it solidly. I tried both Peargear's and they are the same in terms of sag, but much more work to keep them locked. If I loosen the small knob (which I assume to be the tension) then the ball drifts too much. If I tighten it down to keep the ball from drifting, then I end up having to loosen both in order to move the ball again. After a while of tightening and loosening, I can feel my fingers beginning to hurt. Also, as you tighten the knobs, they actually force the ball to travel (same with the pan adjustment), so you have to fight with that as well.A good ball head should be forgotten about, and the scene in front of you be your primary concern. For me, on location, this ball head is too distracting.I've owned these for too long to return at this point, so I'll probably keep them. I can live with a less than perfect head on a monopod since you don't need rock solid support for it. For tripod work, I'm going to search for a better performing head with less sag and an easier to tighten knob. I'll put up with this one for a while, but I don't think I can live with it for the long term.

This is a very solid piece.
I've ordered a few of these now. Once I received the first one, I was hooked. They may it so easy for small smooth adjustments to get just the right angle. When I lock it down after getting it where I want, there is no movement at all. Great product.

This ball head made for some amazing shots
I ordered this last Friday for a shoot on Saturday night and I was so pleased that it came on time and was exactly what I needed. The sellers sent several adapters to ensure it fit on the tripod and I actually needed to use one. It went on perfect and was very stable. I did not worry once about my camera falling off as I used to with the old head. I am so glad I ordered it and will be using it in all of my future shoots. I am by no means a professional photographer but I really enjoy feeling like one with this mount.
