Q: Will darts go through the cork to damage walls?

Hello. I am sorry that I cannot answer that as we have never tried to insert a dart on the cork board. The board is about 1.5" thick so you can measure the dart tip. Best regards Iceberg Enterprises, LLC

Q: Can this 24 x 38 cork board be hung vertically?

Yes it can. Please follow the installation instructions which includes details for vertical and horizontal mounting

Q: What is the rubber band for that is included with the hardware?

You slip it around the board to hold papers or pictures that you don't want to put a push pin in. I didn't use mine, the board looks better without it. Nice board though.
