A quick, easy read to understand more about your body!
This book is a great introduction to anyone who is looking to not only better improve their health but their well being and mental health. It’s a great start to learning about the ins and outs of your gut and micro biome and how to keep everything in check. I love the recipes and the kickstart plan to really put everything I have read into motion. It’s a quick, easy read and easy to follow. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to learn more about their gut how it really impacts the whole body.

Need more information
This book was informative, but I would love to have a lot more information about the diet for treating leaky gut. A few recipes is not enough. How to put together my own menu for a couple weeks or more would be very helpful. She did give a lot of information about leaky gut that was helpful in language anyone could understand.

Heidi’s ability to communicate the importance of the microbiome to your health is key
Heidi knocks it out of the ball park with her new book. My life changed forever when Heidi came into it. She was able to diagnose my histamine intolerance, something my doctor, with all of modern medicine’s best tools, was unable to do. I went on and did an elimination diet and now feel better than I ever anticipated I could again. Her book is direct and to the point, well written and hitting the necessary points to get you going on a diet that will change your life as well. I can’t recommend it enough. After hearing about my adventures with Heidi, my friends are already ordering this book.

Great foundation for improving gut health
Working two jobs, I am always on the run and I have been feeling the impacts on my overall well-being. This book was a perfect foundation for me to get my health back on track with it's simple holistic approach. By following the 2-week plan of diet and exercise, I am starting to feel better with less gut symptoms and my energy levels are increasing.

Useful, easy to implement ideas.
This is a useful and easy to follow guidebook. I found realistic/doable suggestions to improve my health, including several tasty recipes. My husband, who is often a sceptic of self help books, is also following along with some of the ideas.

Basic info. Not suitable for everyone.
This whole body approach is basic, easy to understand for the most part, and brief. The author is a registered dietitian who has bought into some of the “modern” ideas about diet. I do like that she has a few practical ideas about stress reduction that won’t take your whole paycheck. She makes it sound like it’s easy to rebalance your microbiome. As someone who has struggled with this for decades, I assure you it is not simple. It’s not a matter of just eating some fermented foods, or forcing yourself to choke down more fiber. That doesn’t work. At least, it did not work for me. My digestion has gotten worse, and food sensitivities have become almost overwhelming. The book has recipes that focus heavily on certain health food fads like coconut milk, chia seeds, high-sulfur veggies, and fermented foods. People with certain conditions may find these make them feel worse. Some of us do not tolerate high sulfur foods in the quantities suggested here. People with dysbiosis may find they need to space out fiber over the course of the day and not consume too much because it causes bloating or worse. (Been there, done that.) Personally I have a yeast allergy and most fermented foods give me an itchy rash.I have a number of food allergies that have increased over the years so there was almost nothing in the recipes that I could eat, even with substitutions. I have found if you have to substitute or leave out more than two ingredients, the recipe reverts to something tasteless or else to something you are already eating. Oh, and don’t get me started on histamine intolerance. She does mention it, but then goes on to use high histamine foods in the recipes.Aside from the food advice, the book provides solid information, but if you are well-read about health, it may seem elementary and cursory. For example she mentions a few yoga poses but does not provide illustrations, so you are better off taking a class or at least watching a video. There are some useful ideas about stress reduction, although trying to change your diet, exercise, and lifestyle will probably bring on some stress. I don’t know the answer to this. The book is well designed and the fonts are easy to read. The writing style is clear and without levity. There are resources in the back.

Advice For Good Health
This book is a good resource for people who are looking to explore nutrition and how it affects overall health. As someone who has had digestive problems for some years now, I was eager to get the book and see what the author has to share. There were some things that I already knew. Like the fact that fermented vegetables are good for your gut. It was good to see that that was reinforced in the book because I really do like my pickles. But, as another reviewer pointed out, fermented foods may not be right for people with certain conditions. One of the things I didn't know before reading this book is how the enteric nervous system connects all the organs from our esophagus to our bowels.I also didn't know about the microbiomes that live in our guts and are so important for good health. When the author described how they work, I imagined little critters inside my gut like those cute little guys that we used to see in Scrubbing Bubbles commercials. However, the microbiomes don't scrub our guts, and when they are in balance they are so beneficial to total good health.Included in the book are worksheets to track what you eat and how your body reacts to certain foods, and I found those particularly helpful. There are also great recipes to help a person get started on a two-week sample diet. Some advice books about better health tend to come across as preachy or judgmental, and I didn't find that the case with this one. It's written in a pleasant, friendly style, and the information is easy to follow whether you're just beginning to look at making some changes, or you are already doing some, but need a push to get back on track. If you're looking for a book to help you get started on making some major changes in the way you eat and the way you take care of your body, I highly recommend you get his book.
