They wear out fast if you actually use them for anything rigorous
My first impression of these shoes is that they feel a little cheaper than I expected. I definitely think $90 was a little high for the materials involved but the craftsmanship is pretty nice. They also took a few days of all day wearing to loosen up and not feel so stiff. Even still , bending the toe as if your on your knees, the top part of the shoe digs into the top of your foot a bit but I expect that to soften over time as well. If you plan to wear this shoe as a daily item, be advised the water "drain holes" will also let water inside of the shoe. I didn't get my feet wet by wearing them on rainy days but I also didnt step in any deep puddles.4 of 5 stars simply because of the stiffness and the discomfort while bending the toes.Update on my review. These things do not last. The souls nearly wore down flat within a couple of months. Using them hiking and climbing, the drainage hole material ripped very easily. I even got a stick through one of them that ripped the shoe material trying to get it out. I would not recommend these shoes at this price point. Grunt Style and several other retailers have been he exact same shoe with different branding and half the price. If you work or hike in these, they will wear down quickly.

Tactical Chucks at last.
So I love Chuck Taylors. I wear red high tops every day. However, I work in an office and the shoes are good for sitting and periodic standing. Anything more and my feet need more support.I always wanted Converse to make tactical chucks, but the closest I was able to get were Converse combat boots.Apparently the guys at Altama had seen the pictures of Special Forces soldiers in Vietnam sporting Chucks, ranger panties, and an XM177 carbine. Or perhaps they realized that Chucks are still in use as approach shoes and lightweight sneakers when combat boots might raise suspicions. While Nike hinted at more hardcore Chucks at the end of last year, they do not hold a candle to these suckers. Most of the stuff you can see from the pictures, but here's some highlights I liked.1. The outsoles are made of the same plastic that my climbing shoes are, and are grippy even when wet.2. The design flaws seen on original chucks have been remedied. The banding around the outsole and upper have been sewn on to prevent premature separation. They have also cut the banding at the flex point to prevent the typical tearing (although it is supposedly actually to allow your foot to push water out of the shoe.So how do the shoes perform? Pretty good. They are light. They have more padding on the tongue and upper than chucks; something I'm not the biggest fan of, but helps. They do well in the water, and they do in fact work well with fins. I'm no high speed low drag UTD diver, but I do like the idea of a shoe that I can wear into the water, slap fins on, and then walk out of the water later. No need to stop and take off wet suit boots after a dive, you just walk ashore and keep going like a boss. The cut on the back of the high tops allow for full flex of the ankle with fins on. They worked well in my dive and I didn't have to change shoes at all that day.Good to finally see tactical Chuck Taylors. Would highly recommend.

Legit Awesome Tactical Chucks! With One/Two Minor Things, Still Highly Recommend!
I actually use these boots downrange while deployed and can attest that they are pretty good...the only complaints I have for them after using them downrange for a couple months now are that unless you are going to be using these in an aquatic sense ditch the water friendly insoles, they suck if you're not using them for water operations, they will still drain if they get submerged if you have different insoles in them. Personally I use memory foam insoles in all my combat boots/shoes and they make these shoes awesome, I personally hate the gel insoles but that's just my take on them. Also durability...the soles of these and the treads of them wear out rather quickly...now I am using these in the desert and on walking around on base in these so maybe they are really meant for mostly water ops but the soles have lost a good bit of their traction after a couple months downrange. Hopefully they will play with the rubber compound and toughen them up in later iterations of the shoe. Also the high tops are kinda hard to slip on and off, the low tops which are my favorite can slip right on and off but the high tops have to be almost fully laced up and down to put on and off. I do like that they have them in multicam and multicam black now, I have both in the low tops and black and multicam in the high tops. Besides these small issues they are great shoes, plus I feel like I'm getting to rock tactical chucks more than actual combat boots/shoes so that's a bonus! Even with these small issues these are great, hopefully Altama will fix these little details then they will basically be perfect!

great boots, terrible seller
I love these boots. Having said that my order was fulfilled through Action Gear. I ordered the boots for a specific event where I was going to use them for the intended purpose. The boots didn't arrived as promised so I canceled the order. They arrived two months later. I assumed I was charged for them so I just kept them, replaced the insoles and wore them for casual wear. Few weeks later Action Gear called asking for payment. If I had known I wasn't charged I'd have returned to boots. My fault for not realizing this but there was no apology on Action Gear part and when I told them they have poor customer service the lady replied "Oh yeah? How's that?" So, great boots but be mindful who fulfills the order. Don't buy them from Action Gear.

Nice boots
Good fit and comfy. I just wear for short distances though as not used to walking in converse style shoes. Although these have more support than converse. They have some arch support but I put an insoles in too. Very nice.

Good but not perfect
Have used these heavily for work and for play. BLUF: great boat show, good approach shoe, not great beyond that. Does what it is sold for but don’t try do make it something it isn’t.Pros. excellent grip on wet surfaces. River rocks, beach rocks, zodiac floors and tubes, and steel ramps on ships and landing craft. Surprisingly solid sole, that offers great grip and feel when moving on rocky ground, a little like an approach shoe. Moving over rocky ground concealed under grass, at night under NVGs and an assault load these feel like a dream.Cons. Not much padding inThe midsole so not great for prolonged use or heavy loads. The mesh inner is just the right size to collect and capture coarse grain coral sand which will make a mess of your socks and then feet if you aren’t careful. The removable footbed is oddly grippy and makes socks bunch up when you don the shoe. The heel is not quite right; sits too low to prevent debris ingress and to provide much ankle support, but sits right under the Achilles and is, at least for me, a source of chafing after a few hours of movement.

Great for hiking in rivers
I do a lot of fly fishing in the summer when it’s hot and I don’t like wearing waders. I previously used water shoes and toe shoes for standing and hiking in the river all day because they’re very lightweight and make you feel like you’re barefoot while still protecting your feet from sharp rock. I ended up buying new water shoes every 2 months because they’re just not designed for that level of punishment.I bought these ultama’s on the recommendation of a buddy of mine and was highly impressed the very first time I wore them. I went to the most slippery and rocky river (castle river in de Alberta) to see how they would hold up. I also decided to wear no socks to further test comfort. I hiked about a mile in the river to start off. These shoes gripped the rocks like I couldn’t believe. Even when the current took my footing out from me, as soon as I put my foot down to balance, they would grip without fail.I then tried some hybrid hiking through in and out of the water. They would drain as soon as you took the second or third step. I tried walking in some sand bars to see if any sand would get in. Nope.I spent the entire day trying to punish these shoes. From 6:30am to 8:30pm I never once took them off and they did not have a scratch or frayed thread on them.I’m thoroughly impressed and they’re not as clunky as a liking boot. I was surprised at how lightweight they are as well. Came home without any blisters or sore feet. Great product! If you’re still scratching your head about whether or not to buy a pair, just do it.

Calidad
