How many inches out is the foot switch from the base?

It depends, if fully extended it is 5 feet +/-. you can make shorter and hide excess under the bottom with the potential of having it be right next to the base. keep in mind, the foot switch is about 40 inches +/- from the plug and this length is not adjustable. I hope this helps.
