Bought this for my 11 year old daughter for her art lessons in class but she loves to use it more than that. I didn't want to spend a whole lot or purchase a larger set just starting out and this fit the bill perfectly. I am not knowledgeable about charcoal drawing but the materials included are good quality and I have to mention the sharpener. It's metal and works amazing. I would definitely recommend this for a beginner or someone looking to learn how to draw with charcoal.

This is a fabulous sketch set, especially for the price. I took off one star for the eraser. I would have preferred a putty eraser rather than the usual eraser included. Besides a great variety of pencils, it includes trillions and a blender, a sharpener, and sandpaper. Great value. Highly recommended!EDIT: I'm enjoying this set so much I purchased a second set as a birthday gift for someone. I have no doubt they'll be as happy with it as I am.

This sketching set will not turn you into Leonardo DaVinci. That said, if you do happen to already be Leonardo DaVinci, they won't make you worse. Many of DaVinci's sketches are rough anyway, but luckily this set includes a white plastic eraser (the best type)! As with the pencils, the eraser is not the best ever made, but it isn't bad. Where this set really shines is the inclusion of tourtillons and the sandpaper board, the latter of which is the main reason I bought this set (which are relatively expensive individually). The sandpaper roughly shears soiled paper from the tourtillons in a highly effective fashion, so much so that one might expect that only DaVinci himself had dreamed up such a fantastic invention.All in all this is a well rounded (if limited) sketching set, worth the small investment.
