MV Norland, Secret Weapon of the Falklands War: From North Sea Ferry to Task Force Assault Ship

A great read for all; but especially those who experienced the FIW.
It was good to be reminded of the many Ships Taken Up From Trade(STUFT), and the fantastic performance of all the MN ships' crews, during that very difficult and dangerous experience. The military involvement can only be separated by the fact that all of them were, as I was, trained as volunteers for such an eventuality. The MN however, was volunteered by force of circumstances to participate (lack of shipping platforms needed to shift such a large force, and the even greater amount of equipment, south), and to provide other platforms to act as Hospital, Damage Repair, Tankers, Despatch Vessels etc. MV NORLAND and all those who served in her tell a full and frank story of their experiences, their fears and their sad losses, with great humour and modesty.

A true Heroine of the Falklands war
When I purchased the book and from Kingston upon Hull myself , I found the book to be very enjoyable , it tell the story of a North Sea Ferry going to war , her crew and who she carried there. Some times funny , sometimes sad . To me 5 stars is a bit low for the quality of the story it should have been 10 or more .

We were there too !!!
Disappointed only 2 Para were mentioned. Half of 18 Squadron, R A F (Chinooks) were on board as well.We worked with the Navy to run the flight decks, and WE manned the Machine Guns attached to the ship's railswith our senior NCOs and R A F Regiment detachment. Al Muir. R A F (Retd).

I would recommend this to anyone and it should be put in school history classes.Respect to all involved.

Great book
Brought this as my father used to use the Norland regularly during the course of his careeer as an hgv driver.Remembered it going to the Falklands and found this book to be very interesting and funny too..Highly recommended if your interested in the Merchant Navy contribution to the taking back of the Falklands islands.
