Works well
We recently had a couple of power outages - an unexpected one at night, and a scheduled one early morning. Pulled this out of the cabinet and it worked very well. Definitely puts out a lot of light, especially if you place it in front of a mirror. Not sure how much heat it puts out. It says 5000 BTUs, but I’m thinking I would have to put it in my bathroom in order to really benefit from it. I did sit it between my feet with my coffee cup on top during the scheduled outage (I was smart enough to program my coffee maker to make coffee before the power went out, but not smart enough to figure out how I was going to keep it warm without power). It rewarmed my coffee quickly, and kept my feet warm.I used it for probably three hours, total, and the candles are a little less than halfway burned down. It states they burn for eight hours, so that is about right. The only con is that it is a bit pricey, but way safer and more efficient than burning a bunch of random candles.

Bright and long lasting candles
Easy to use. Simple design. Seems pretty tough.

It’s awesome!
So cute and practical. Keep extra candles on hand ..be sure to buy beck up candles , as the ones that come with supposed to last 8 hours. You can heat up a cup of hot water for coffee or tea or cup of noodles when the power is out and supposed to heat up a small room or tent! And they are made by a company in Seattle Washington 💕

For the most part
I mostly really like the UCO. The spring is a bit weak and doesn't push the candle up very well. This leaves a buildup of wax around the inside tube the candle is placed in. Though the candle burns a good amount of time, I find about 8-9 hours, they are a bit of a pain to get out. Once extinguished the wax around that tube hardens, so before that happens I need to sort of clean that area, for this I use a toothpick and and go around to push the softened wax inward towards the extinguished wick, let it cool and push out to remove. Be careful not to get you fingers in the cut out view of the tube. I've been pinched and bleed twice removing the candle.Disappointed that there is still about an inch of good burning time left on each candle after removing. I'll find use for the nubs of wax that is left but if the spring was stronger to push up the candle it would definitely be less time consuming to change candles and less waste. The candle will continue to burn if you choose, but since the spring doesn't push, the melted wax will flow out the view window cutout. Take note that I choose to have that inch of unused candle.UCO does get pretty hot on the very top so be careful. I myself don't mind, part of the reason I purchased it. It will warm up a small space, not significantly. I've put a pot of water and it does get pretty hot. The removable top does stay cool at the bottom by the candles so easy to remove if needed. The light it gives off is great! The lantern does what I expected. In the 20 days of owning it I hope I passed on a few pointers to others. It's a great emergency lantern in all. The design is ok, but I wish I could use more of the candle. Stronger spring? Shorter tube shaft? I donno. It won't stop me from using it. It wouldn't stop me from purchasing another in the future.

Saved our butts!
Well pump froze up this morning and I had no spare heater or extension cord to thaw it out. Then I thought of this lamp. A little while later we've got water again. Wish the candles were a little cheaper. I've tried to duplicate them but can't quite get it right. But the lantern was sure a big help today. Worth the price for this day alone in my book. I'd be willing to bet this thing would keep you alive in an emergency situation.

Highly recommend!
I've wanted this model for years. I was surprised to see that different colors were different prices, so choose carefully if that matters to you. I went right for the cheapest color. This item comes with candles already installed. I lit mine and let them burn all the way down. It took many many hours, wish I had timed it, but I think it was a little longer than promised, which is great. I ordered beeswax replacement candles. I compared prices carefully.NOTE: read the instructions carefully for replacing candles. Do not accidentally throw away the little metal discs that you're supposed to put on the bottom of the replacement candles. Handle gently, the springs are a bit flimsy, they seem easy to bend out of shape or break. I personally think that could be improved.Make sure you place the candles properly, and keep the unit level when the candles are burning so that melting wax doesn't spill over the edges and make a mess. Some wax will adhere to the inside of the cylinders holding the candles. For safe and proper operation, clean this wax out of those cylinders and anywhere else that wax may have gotten. People suggest a number of ways to get the wax out of there. Next time I will try freezing the cylinders, and hopefully the wax will come off easily. Take care not to scratch the inside of the cylinders, or the build-up problem will be worse.Once I got the hang of gently replacing the and cleaning any errant wax, I'm very happy with this item. The three candles do throw a lot of light. The flat top plate gets very hot, so use caution.

Top heat shield damaged
I have several original UCO lanterns. This larger lantern Throws a good amount of light, and while I did not use it long enough yet seems like it should also provide a generous amount of warmth. The bottom of the lantern is screwed out of the lantern so you can light the candles and the installed back into the lantern. To extinguish the base is once again removed from the lantern to blow out the candles. While the top heat shield quickly got hot, the bottom of the lantern remained cool to allow the removal of the base to extinguish the candles.I gave four stars because the lantern arrived with slight damage to the heat shield. I have contacted UCO for resolution of this issue.UCO sent me a new heat shield for no charge within three days, so I have updated my review to reflect 5 stars.

Great piece of kit
Buy this and a box of candles. It is nice lighting any time and its design is safe when sitting flat and when hanging. With three candles, its ambiance is warm and bright.During an emergency, it provides light, heat, and a small hot surface on the top for heating up water, etc. This is the type of kit you would rather be looking at than looking for when in need of a heating lantern. Also: it is a hamdsome three-candle lantern.

Einfach klasse Lampe

Great product
Bought one a while back as a gift for a friend, but with blackouts in the UK now being a possibility this winter I decided to get one for myself. It is well built, candles have a long burn time and the UCO candle holder is fantastic, not sure that cooking on top is practicable, but if times get really tough then I guess I'll give it a go.

Emergency Heat
Our boiler broke down so i put two of these lanterns three candles each, on in our living room. Its definitely lifted the temperature so good for heat to lift the chill in an emergency....

Innovatively designed, highly functional candlelier candle lamp produces heat and light
I am impressed by the design, build quality and functionality of this UCO candlelier lantern which I bought for my camping trips.Build quality is superb with an aluminium outer, plastic base and metal candle sleeves which fit over the candles to contain the wax. At the base are further aluminium caps which ensure no wax leaks onto springs beneath which, mounted onto the base, push the candle up the sleeve as it burns to ensure all three candles burn at the same consistent height. The candlelier holds three candles which can be all of one type or a mix of the paraffin wax originals or any combination of these and beeswax or blue citronella candles. Just one or all three candles can be lit at once to provide light and some warmth depending on the light and heat level required. I'm using beeswax candles which produce a warm yellow cosy glow and emit a light honey scent, creating a very relaxed ambience after dark.In addition to light, the candlelier also produces some heat which is very noticeable in a small, confined space and can certainly reduce the chill on an overnight camp, although it will never compete with a heater. In a very unscientific test, I held a thermometer about 20cm over my candle lantern for 10 minutes just to gain an indication of the heat level above and in this short time it measured 28°C in a 17°C room. It won't create much noticeable heat in a room but is warm when sitting beside it.Replacement candles are not cheap but heat production rarely is, and they do have a long burn time of about 9-12 hours so they justify the cost. It will also boil a cup of water placed on the top warming plate in about 25 minutes.I also have the tealight version and would recommend both although this is better when size and weight are less critical while the tealight version is best suited to lightweight backpacking.
