Crown Prince Mackerel in Water, 15-Ounce Cans (Pack of 12)

I’m blown away by how good this canned mackerel from Crown Prince is. The flavor is rich and satisfying—way tastier than sardines. It’s extremely convenient for hitting my daily protein target without relying on whey shakes or yet another boring plate of eggs. Each can packs over 50 grams of protein, which is insane for the price. I just crack it open, add some lemon juice and hot sauce, and eat it straight from the can. It’s that good—no heating, no mess. The bones are completely soft and edible, which is awesome. You get the added calcium benefit without any weird crunch. They melt right in, and you don’t even notice them texture-wise. If you’re into fitness, trying to bulk or cut, or just want something easy and clean to eat, this is hands-down one of the best pantry staples you can stock. It’s affordable, shelf-stable, and actually enjoyable to eat. I always keep a few cans on hand. Highly recommended—this stuff is a game changer for anyone who’s tired of bland meal prep.

I buy a lot of fish for my dogs. They love canned salmon but it's expensive. So I started buying them mackerel. I realized several orders later that the canned mackerel I was buying was in brine. OOPS! Salt is not good for dogs. So I found this product. I tasted it and the taste is superior to the brined fish. And my dogs love this and eat it right up. It's great for their skin and coat and those omega fish oils in the mackerel are good for all kinds of things. But I feel that this is superior to other canned mackerel products and will definitely keep buying it when it's available.

As much as I love salmon, and the salmon croquettes (patties, whatever) my mother used to make, they were a rare treat due to the price of canned salmon. When my children came along, I wanted to feed them the same treats; but again, the price was steep and we struggled. On a suggestion by someone I trusted, I picked up a can of Jack Mackerel as a substitute for salmon. Far cheaper, and when I prepared them the way my mother and grandmother did, every bit as delicious. My kids are long since adults, but occasionally they want some of Dad's Mackerel Patties, and have wrested the recipe from me. I cannot recommend Crown Prince too highly. This is great food at a great price.

Two cans have large dents, one near the seam. Unfortunately I waited too long for a refund and the case was relatively pricey. Two other cans have smaller, probably safe dents. The one can I ate did taste quite nice and I will be eating what is not heavily dented, since the deadline was a few days ago. Hopefully next shipment will be in better condition.

I use these to feed my dogs. They love it. I mix it with their dry food and Natural Balance can food.

It's no more nor less than what I expected. It's fish! Surprise! Good protein at a reasonable price, with no added ingredients except a bit of salt. They could have left that off, as far as I'm concerned, but it's not unacceptably salty. Next time, I might look for a variant with higher calcium levels.

Very tasty and scrumptious flavor straight out the can, loaded with a ton of omega 3, and absolutely perfect for making mackerel stew.
