Great tasting! Good for you. The best
Not sure why anyone has s problem with smell. What do you expect fish to small like, chicken??? Pfft! WAY better than sardines! Not mushy. Not really fishy tasting or smelling. At least not compared to sardines that I used to get in this brand. For some reason I stopped finding sardines in water so I looked these up. Instead of mushy they're meaty. They taste better More Omega 3 More Vitamin B-12 More Selenium A little higher in mercury than sardines but 3 times a week is just fine. A little less calcium but you get that from milk (i use organic Simple Truth) and from broccoli or like me broccoli microgreens. Yaay! I'm glad i did some research. These are like eating big fish with there only slightly larger than sardines. Never get in Olive oil or any other thing. Get in water and rinse then cook with Amazon Grocery brand of Avocado oil which is second from the top in having the least amount of PCBs. Olive oil has a TON even if you buy it in glass! Of all the major brands of avocado oil tested only one tablet higher than Amazon Grocery brand and it cost over 100.00 for a bottle and affordable!

PERFECT!
I love that these are in water instead of oil. I also love that they are not loaded in salt so I can add my own seasonings and not worry about my blood pressure spiking! They are meaty and taste great straight from the can.

I use this in mackerel salad. Itโs delicious and healthy.
Originally, I was buying their brand of mackerel in oil. I switched to the water thinking I would regret it as the fish might be too dry, but mackerel is a drier fish. Itโs necessary to add something creamy or olive oil too dress it up a bit, literally and figuratively. Once I do that, itโs quite delicious, even though it still has a bit of a dry taste. Itโs worth it to me to get the health benefits of wild caught fish for a reasonable price.

A clean and satisfying snack
I eat a lot of tinned fish - sardines, tuna, mackerel and others, sometimes trout or salmon, sometimes octopus and cod liver. I really like the taste of fish in oil, but sometimes I just want some light clean protein. This is perfect for that, a solid alternative to high-quality sardines in water I have had this for all meals - breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as snacks, always right out of the tin and with no additional condiments, and have been consistently happy with it. I think many will find this a bit bland, or maybe slightly dry. It is quite dense and meaty, so that's a natural impression, you have to be looking to have that sort of fish. It doesn't have that mild bitterness or acridity that characterizes some fish packed in water. It's particularly good when you don't want anything too heavy, so for breakfast or supper. I haven't tried cooking it, or in a sandwich or anything, so I can't comment on that. But I recommend it as a standard part of your tinned fish rotation, being very mild you can have it regularly without tiring of it.

Low calorie decent mackerel
So this is the lowest calorie mackerel I've found. It is in water and unsalted. It is also surprisingly dry for mackerel. So not great for putting on top of crackers but good for dish incorporation.

top quality
top quality product. my cat, too, loves it. it is a bit dry, so i mix it with naked bone broth for both myself and my cat. worth the money. one of the cans was poked through from the transport, all through the amazon cardboard, the mackerel cardboard, and one can, can't blame the manufacturer for that.

Donating it...
I'm going to donate this batch. The fish was quite hard and tasted old and stuck to the can as if it had been in there for awhile. I ate some of this before going to bed, when I woke up the next morning, I had this horrible morning breath with this fish lingering. I can eat fruit, candy or anything sweet before I go to bed and not wake up with this type of foulness lingering in my mouth. Fish is very acidic and polluted, so this might explain why. I have purchased sardines at the local grocers that were not as tough as this fish. I also felt dehydrated after eating this despite being low in sodium.

One of the best sardines out there.
I love these things. Great taste.
