Get Tusked: The Inside Story of Fleetwood Mac's Most Anticipated Album

The trouble of making a follow up album to Rumours.
It is very interesting how Lindsey Buckingham did not want to make a Rumours 2 album but instead direct the group Fleetwood Mac to a 180 degree turn and do an opposite 20 song double album. The whole recording process has its moments but you would have to read all about it. For me, it made putting the book down very hard to do. I enjoyed the book very much.

Good Read for a Fan
It was fascinating to learn about the evolution of the songs on this landmark album. The descriptions of the tension in the studio among the band members are extremely interesting. The details of the substance abuse are very alarming and a little too much time is devoted to Ken's and Hernan's sexual fantasies and escapades. There are details about types of microphones, amplifiers and other equipment that someone in a band would probably find more interesting. Not as good as 'Making Rumours' but all in all an informative and enjoyable read for any fan of Fleetwood Mac fan.

Great glimpse inside the making of a classic
I've read a number of reviews here complaining of poor editing in this book. Yes, there are some typos and a few things that aren't accurate, but it isn't significant enough to detract from the great content in this book. I like that the book features the memories and experiences of both Ken Caillat and Hernan Rojas. But to differentiate from each man's perspective, Hernan's portions are in all italics, and I have to say that I find italics very hard to read. Again, that's a minor gripe because I loved the content. There are some great stories here and a unique insight into the state of the band as they were making the Tusk album. Definitely worth the read if you are a fan as I am.

behind the scenes for real music fans
Much like Ken's book on the making of the Rumours record, this is a masterpiece if you want to understand what goes into making a multi-platinum album. The Average Joe doesn't get how much hard work is involved. This stuff isn't like goofing off. Millions of bucks are at stake. It is hard to write great music, and hard to make it sound as good as it does on Tusk. It really is a job, and the cocaine wasn't used to get high, but to keep WORKING. I really hope that Ken writes a book on the creation of the Mirage album, which is a massively underrated piece of work beyond its hit songs. As for Tusk, I have massive respect for the band. As Neil Young said after making Harvest: "It was a great album, really good. So good that it wasn't worth repeating." In other words, you can't the success of something Rumours. The Mac HAD TO go into a different artistic direction. It remains Lindsey and Mick's favorite Mac album because they didn't run a formula into a ground. Rumours is respected and Tusk is respected.

Brilliant Book
I held off buying this book for quite some time due to previous reviews talking about typos, being technical, talking too much about their love life, and it is all of these and more LOL. Despite some of those minor flaws, the book gets to the heart of what makes Tusk their brilliant (Beatles) White Album. It clarified for me exactly where Lindsey stood from day one, down to the new hair cut, a little eyeliner and a brand new attitude. To be fair I say Lindsey was less interested in making a Fleetwood Mac (white album) 3 then he was in making a Rumours 2, since in reality the Fleetwood Mac and Rumours albums have more in common sound wise. If he would have just sat his band members down as comrades instead of enemies that would have made Tusk come out a much more sensational album than it did. Stellar book.
