The Secret Order of the Gumm Street Girls: A Fantasy Adventure about Four Unlikely Friends in Strange Lands for Kids (Ages 8-12)

I love this sequel of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and the adventure of friendship. I think this is a great story for adults or kids. It’s a creative way of continuing ‘The Wizard of Oz’ while making it more mysterious. I look forward to reading a continuation of the Gumm street girls’ adventures.

I remember finding this in my library in town. I wasn't able to put down this book as a child and I had to buy this book for my niece and nephew when they begin to read more often. I also loved this book as a child myself, but I remember how I got weird dreams or it left me in a weird phase like I had once read this one zombie book, but I don't remember it was called though. I read it in high school. This book was my favorite in my childhood. I don't know how to explain more. Although it reminds me of all the famous kid's movies together.

I was searching for a gift for my niece when the cover of this book caught my eye. I picked it up and, well, couldn't put it down. The story, which uses The Wonderful Wizard of Oz as a springboard, is about four girls who live on the same street but are in no way friends, although they are thrown together in a fight against the wicked witch Cha Cha Staccato, who will do anything to lay her hands on a certain pair of silver slippers.... The four girls end up in Spoz, then in Spudz, then in Ooze, before their adventures finally bring them back to Gumm Street -- yes, as friends. And with a little something extra besides. The story moves quickly, with surprises coming at you in every chapter, and is both engaging and humorous in the telling. There are a number of details for adults to pick up on as well: there are also ruby slippers involved in the story as well as silver; the ruby slippers were worn in the movie by Judy Garland; Judy Garland's real name was Frances Gumm and one of the girls is actually named Franny, while all four of them live on Gumm Street. And so on. It's a lot of fun to read with an eight-year-old -- although most of them, I find, can't wait for their bedtime chapter and finish it on their own!

Granddaughter age 10 loved receiving the book and was anxious to read it. And, she doesn't always get excited about books.

This is one of the best books I ever read! I really did not want to finish it it was so awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great condition! Gift for my daughter.

I read this book aloud to my 7th grade honors english class when it first came out. The kids were definitely entertained. The art is beautiful and the characters are wonderful (LOVED Mr. Staccato). The kids enjoyed finding the relationships between this book and the Wizard of Oz. But, if I am being honest, some of the plot twists were just weird. Once the story got to Spoz and Spudz, the kids were sort of bewildered. The pacing was a bit off in the second half of the book. There were so many GREAT things about the characters (the antagonist was awesome), but the story just fell flat with my class. I am interested to have the sequel in my classroom library, but I don't think I will read it aloud again.

Interesting book with great characters and a good plot. My daughter loved it.

My daughter loves this book! We read it years ago and she was asking for it again. I'm glad I found a copy on Amazon. 😊
