Transit Xpress Truck Rack, Black, Universal (40-5713-NON-NON)

Works great for bikes... I recently took the bike mounts off, purchased another rack and installed my snowboard racks on the bars in place of bike mounts. Works great, they don't weigh any more than a bike would so this mount holds up and as I stated can be used for many things (tie down spot for light gear as well). Normally I'd get the cross bed rails to accomplish this but I have a sports rack in the way and can't extend past the inside of the bed in certain areas. These are installed inside to inside which works perfect

Good product for my application

No longer will I need 10 crank straps to tie down my boys bikes and mine in the back of the truck so that they do not clang around on top of each other. Even if you don’t have quick release it’s so much easier to put the bikes up this way. One note to take to address some other reviewers issues once the bars are installed. When you set the tension it is hard to push in the locking pin to lock the bar and even harder to unlock and get the pin to retract so that you can remove the bar. I found the solution and it made it work flawlessly. I bought two of these so I could carry 4 bikes in the back of my truck and on the first one I did what another reviewer did and took the bar apart, used my dremel to make the hole more of a slot shape. When the pin is depressed it acts as a stabilizer and prevents the amount of play up and down like it does when the bar is unlocked. So I didn’t want to lose that function by just simply drilling a bigger hole. So, I worked on it, put it back together and it made minimal difference. Took it apart again, dremeled some more and this time when I put it together I applied some WD 40 heavy duty all purpose grease on the hole. Worked flawlessly. On the second one I thought, “why didn’t I just try the grease to start with?”. Low and behold, the second one worked flawlessly with the grease. No need to drill out holes or any of that. Just put some all purpose grease and bam! I’m not sure why the manufacturer does not grease this spot. It’s extremely easy to disassemble and reassemble with one bolt.

I love this bike rack and It was about $200 cheaper than it’s name brand competitors. It is sturdy, good quality, quick to assemble and install, and most importantly holds my bikes securely in place. I did have to give it 4 stars instead of 5 due to a minor manufacturing error with the lock as noted in other posts. I took the gamble and bought this one. I had the locking mechanism fixed in less than 10 minutes and saved several hundred dollars compared to the Thule model. You simply need to drill 1 hole out one size larger where the locking pin goes in. If you are an Alpha, take the chance. Easy fix. If you are a Beta, it works well without the locking mechanism or spend the extra money for a name brand. Overall it was exactly what I was hoping for.

Solid option for transporting your bike in the bed of your truck. Like several other reviews, the lock doesn’t function on the one I received. I don’t think it’ll cause any issues. Pleased with my purchase for the price.

mounted on the floor of the bed of my honda ridgeline using the tie downs instead of mounting on top of the bed. bikes sit lower than on the top of the bed so I can haul a canoe.as mentioned in other reviews the locking mechanism may need a small modification. Mine worked fine before I installed it but not under tension. The hole that the bolt goes in is a tad too tight. I reamed it out with a drill bit the next size up.

Need better locking mechanism. Was a Christmas present.

This rack is everything they said it was. Can be install in minutes. I did find that the lock didn’t want to lock when it was clamped in place with pressure on it, but worked find when it was off my truck. I took it apart and drilled the hole that the lock goes in bigger and a bit elongated and it works great. I would suggest that the manufacturer should do the same, a very easy fix. With this in mind I would recommend it to anyone who is a bit handy; or otherwise it really isn’t necessary to lock it.
