The pre-K students that I tutor in my county school system can easily identify all the items in the book’s colorful photos and enjoy counting them. This book uses everyday objects to reinforce basic counting exercises, demonstrating the usefulness of numbers for the youngsters.

My grandson had borrowed this book from his local library and was heartbroken when it had to be returned. The copy I received from Salt Lake City Library surplus was identical down to the library binding and in brand new condition. Very happy 5 year old!

Do you know what numbers look like? Yes, we see them all the time around us, including the magnetic letters on the fridge. Counting can be a lot of fun. You can easily see that cookie in the shape of a number one. There is “one cookie and one flower” to look at and a special little cake with a number one candle on the top of it. There are all kinds of numbers everywhere and counting can be lots of fun. If you add numbers together you will get a totally different number. It’s easy to see that “2 one plus one equals two.” How many things can you add together to get the number two?In this book there’s a lot of counting going on and you can count all the way up to twenty. Yes, counting to ten is fun and easy, but do you think you can do go further? Eight is a very interesting number to look at. If you take that seven and add one you get eight. There are eight apples, eight pencils, and eight petals on the page. If you put your finger on each one and count you’ll find it’s very easy. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. This book is full of bright pictures to look at and numbers to count. Take a close look at those twenty eggs. “If we take them all away, how many are left?” Now that empty carton is very interesting!This is a fun, interesting look at numbers that will introduce young children to counting and pre-math concepts. Each page is alive with numbers in several shapes and forms. On the introductory page, we see mathematical representations of numbers while on subsequent pages we see the single number, the written one, and two or more easily recognizable items. For example, when looking at the number 14, we see the numeral, the “fourteen,” and two examples (silverware and embroidered flowers) to count. An emergent reader can tackle the text with assistance, but this book would also be a perfect introduction to numbers for preschoolers.
