No match for a true wire slicker.
I have a giant Yorkie that is 13 years old, and has NEVER had a hair cut other than around the eyes and butt. The ONLY thing that does a great job of brushing hair and removing fur under that hair is a TRUE wire slicker brush. The wire slicker brush can hurt the dog in some areas (legs; close to the bones, and belly area) so you have to be very careful. This brush actually pulls the hair more than the wire brush. This brush is better suited for a short haired dog or cat.

Perfect Brush Search Is Over, My Cat Loves This Brush
I have been trying to find a brush my cat likes and I was getting discouraged in finding a brush that worked with her rabbit type fur. I am very happy to say the search is over and we are both very happy with this brush! It is comfortable to hold, the bristles are not prickly and the bristles do not get tangled in her fur, it is very easy to brush her now. No more tangling and painful brushing for my pretty Ragdoll cat who has long fur that is as soft and silky as any rabbit.I brush her twice a day now and she would have me do it more often because it is that much better for her.I am very happy with this brush.

Useless
I bought this for my mini pin doodle puppy. The vet told me she had tangles in the under coat and needed to be groomed with a slicker. This was advertised as a slicker brush but it doesn't pick up anything, even when I line-brush her. I will be getting a wire bristle slicker.

Gentle to dog’s skin
I tried others metal ones and those make my pup ‘Yelp’ when I started to brush. This one has round tips and they are plastic, so, it is gentle to the skin and my pup tolerates it.
