Q: Instructions are unclear. What size hole should i drill in the wall to fit the plastic mounts?

First the product is iron pipe shelf,no plastic mounts The iron pipe shelf have 6 discs, Four self-tapping screws need to be installed where each disc is fixed. The corresponding wall punching size is about 0.4-0.6cm (0.16inch-0.24inch)

Q: How far apart are the mounting pipes? The distance between the pipes?

The pipes can be adjusted as far out or close as you’d like. I placed the bars in the studs of my wall (making the pipes 24 inches apart) , but I could have placed them further out if I had wanted to (at most 42 inches apart) if I had wanted deal with the drywall anchors. This is because the planks for the shelves are not attached to the pipes and can be moved, unless you want to secure them.My bookshelf is mostly for decoration so I did not secure the shelves underneath (as seen in the video).

Q: Is this sturdy enough to hold binders? Is there enough space between the bottom and top shelf to put letter size binders on bottom shelf?

Yes, it's very sturdy. The wood pieces dont tac down to anything, just rest on the pipes, but it's a solid piece.
